I have 4 kids and I'm on my second minivan. First was a Chevy astro van. I now have a Nissan quest. Wives hauling kids for the most part don't care about the cool factor of a suv. They view it as an appliance to get them from point A to B, nothIng more. Minivans work very well and they are really useful. The only advantage I see that a full size suv has is the ability to tow. Since I have a Silverado to tow with, the wife's car is not needed for that duty.

Fuel economy is not what one thinks when they think of Toyota/Nissan/Honda. My quest is lucky to break 23 on the highway. That being said, it is a heavy car and has the same engine and transmission as the maxima. The van is roomy, comfortable, quiet, good in bad weather, and has room for 7 with room in the back for some cargo.

For hauling the family around, you can't go wrong.

My wife is doing the same stuff your wife is too...

Her: "I want a Nissan Rogue"

Me: "You just bought that Camry about a year ago"

Her: "But it's my money"

Me: "Okay, but...When the Avy is paid for (about another year), I'm buying another go-fast toy"

Her: "What about the GTO?"

Me: "What about it? I'm not gonna sell it!"

Her: "You don't need another toy!"

Me: "But it's my money!"

Her: "..."

Take notes gents because THIS, is how you do it. Fine job sir, fine job.

Oh, I may "win" the discussion...But she'll still get her new car.

And my argument on that particular topic only works if you and your spouse buy your cars with separate accounts.

Ssssshhh!!! I know this as well but let that be a secret!

True and for some reason, my account gets more use/abuse than her's does these days. Of course, it might have something to do with the fact that I nearly double her income too. Sugar momma's, good ones are so hard to find these days......

Ah, I can see it's only starting for me too. Every time I mention getting an LS1 Camaro she reminds me about paying for our wedding...

Oh, I've always been the "spender" in our relationship. She's a penny-pinching tightass. But I don't spend close to what I earn, and carry no debt...So even though I give her a coronary every time I buy something stupid, she knows I'm not hurting the family unit.

Sounds very familiar except mine, (GF) is not even comfortable taking loans out, that's how tight she is. I spend, she saves. Just like yours, she has a coronary everytime I back in the driveway with some sort of new toy and although I cannot say that I am debt free (I do have house and truck payments) she knows that I would never spend it if it was

going to pinch us, ever, so usually I just get that pooched upper lip, arms crossed on her chest, a snort, a verbal "Oh well...." and back in the house she goes.

The craziest part is, for me anyway, is how pissed off she gets when I buy her something. I mean, she takes it, she's not a complete fool, but will bark up and down about how much it cost or that I shouldn't have spent the money on something like that, etc, etc. It don't stop me though. Wait until the truck is paid for and I back a brand new Jeep in the driveway for her. She'll probably have to go to the emergency room LOL.
