I Dont Believe I Had This Conversation

Yesterday as my wife and I were headed home from Lowes we had an interesting conversation. Lately I have been expressing my desire for a sportscar as some of you know. In particular a 2012 Chevy Camaro ZL1. I am currently #2 on the wait list at the dealer (she isnt aware of this yet but might be later this month as ordering started the last week of October supposedly).

 

Well we are talking and she says and I quote "I want a minivan". I damn near crashed my truck when she said this. I cant even believe this. Her current ride is a 2008 Tahoe. Her complaint is lifting the little one in and out of it which is valid (I guess ). He hopefully soon can start to climb in but I understand the pain. So I said how about a Traverse, she said no not a minivan She said she wants something practical, I said well then I want something impractical

 

Soooo my calculating and problem solving skills kicked in. HMMM buy a nice used minivan and trade the Tahoe (only has 29K miles) in on a nice down payment on the camaro come spring.

 

Thanks for letting me vent.

 

Anyone out there have any suggestions that are better than a minivan and will suit our needs? Thanks!

Only mini-van I'd consider is a #$%$&. Oh yeah... I'd never consider a mini-van so I'm no help. Before I would ever consider a mini-van, I'd look at the caddy SRX station wagon.

Exactly its a win win for both of us. The issue with a car is bending down vs lifting up into the Tahoe to load the lil one (32lb monster). I think the Tahoe is easier to load rather than a car/wagon. CTS-V wagon would be nice too

Leave it to a women to be practical..... Just get a bungee cord or two and but one end around the rear assist handle on the tahoe, tell your wife to pull the other end down and hook the "monsters" back belt loop! BAM lift assist!

 

And this is why I wont be having kids!

Well if i had to get a mini-van i would go with either the chrysler town and country or the dodge grand caravan. Other non-mini van option if you can get her to be more open, is get her to really look into the traverse. I have been in both a traverse and the chevy uplander mini-van and the traverse is alot more practical than that mini van. Another viable option could be the dodge journey or the ford flex.

Chrysler is one of the only company's still making mini-vans for a reason.

 

With that being said, she'll want her Tahoe back before winter is out. Buy her a Town and Country, trade in the Tahoe, get the ZL1 and be happy ever after. Well, until she starts in about wanting her Tahoe back come February.....

Take a look at the Ford Edge, just bought one in July..... Although its a Ford I really like it, wife loves it. Plenty of room, lower the the ground than a Tahoe, available in Awd, and I think the sport has a turbo. (nope I didnt look bc then I would want) even with the V6 ours has a the 6speed it does move.

As well as the Equinox and Terrain but it sounds as if he's going to be stuck with a minivan in his garage.

I wouldn't get the new town and country, drove a rental one around, know that it was new with only 12k miles on it so far, though its very nice inside and out, the engine/tranny is ok. And the ride is ok also but not the best so shop around first.

Dont worry it wont be long after you get the minivan that your wife will decide she would rather drive the truck! Then you will be driving that nice new minivan! Camaro to minivan..... Im sure they handle about the same!

Thanks for the info but its not about the room, the Tahoe has plenty of that just loading the lil one in is a PITA. I think either way your going to have to lift him in so we wont be in any better situation.

wait until the ZL1 is out before ordering one... the dealers are going to be marking them up like crazy!!! i ordered my SS before they came out and every dealer near me wanted between $2,000 and $10,000 above MSRP. i finally found one that was willing to accept my GM Supplier Discount in May '09, right when they started hitting the showroom floor

Its not like they are going to be rare. I would be willing to go MSRP and no higher if so I can wait. They are making them for MY2012 and 2013 at least and gm said they will build as many as people want.
