8.1 Programmer For Gas Mileage

Recommended Posts

I know that this has been beat to death and I pre-appologize for posting again, but , are any of you finding any worth while fuel economy gains by using any particular programmer or custom tune that you can report on?

I'm up in Canada and if you calculate it out, we pay 5 bucks plus a US gallon for gas. I don't want to purchase a programmer or custom tune only to find little MPG gains.

It doesn't NEED anymore power, it works very well as it is.

Your thoughts please.

Thanks

I tried 2 different handhelds with my 8.1, and it only made things worse.

The cold air intake I added really made things bad. I finally put the intake back stock, the tune stock, and just went with exhaust and the mileage might have gone up .5 mpg. I wish I had know about Blackbear back then.

You would need to contact Blackbear for a custom tune, but even then it isn't going to be anything great. The drivability gained from a BB tune is worth it, though.

I have gained 1 mpg on the 2 trucks I have used Blackbear on.

+1 I have a BB tune and gained a little, no more than 1 mpg, but it does drive much nicer.

The in-person Blackbear tune is the best way to go..Hands down. You will get the most accurate tuning and results with justin sitting in the truck.

I am going to look at BB but does it also tweak Allison tranny shift points etc? I love my 04' but just can't handle the 9-10 mpg.

I had thought about a gear swap from the 4:10 to 3:73 I believe any thoughts on that sub topic?

Spend the gear money on gas. You'll most likely be farther ahead. 3+ tons of truck and 500ci don't get good mileage.
