HMMMMMM.... I thought that my comments were particularly tempered. Especial since the poster in question appears to be proud of braking the law....... My wife is handicapped and I really don't appreciate people that think that it's OK to steal parking spaces that are designated for the HC..... because "I will only be 5 minutes".

 

Meanwhile the HC person doesn't have a spot and has to park in the back of the lot where this person is much more (physically) capable of walking from.

 

Try that in CA and you may only do it once.... $400 for the 1st offense (including fees) and $900 for the 2nd offense.

 

Now....if you want to get on someone posting "Un-called for comments"...... How about post #5 in this thread........"i park in handicap spots if i'm going to be less then 5 minutes and their is no readily available spots, why? because if people can use being fat or i chain smoked to the point they need oxygen to qualify as handicapped then i think me as a tax paying hard working citizen can qualify for 5 minutes of handicap parking" I, my wife and every other handicapped person or spouse (or any other thinking person) would find that highly offensive.

Sorry that I haven't posted anything since I did the first post but I was in the hospital and yes I do have a HC permit. So I wasn't just parking there just to be close to the store front. And now that I am able I will take my truck over the the dealer for a est. The ins company called me and ask me to take it there.

you took my comment too harsh...i do realise that their is alot of people that do need the spots, but like alot of things in american society people find ways to use and abuse them(thus the chain smoker/obese comment)..i do not make a habit of parking in handicap parking, its mostly if i'm in a bind and need to be in and out quickly..now i apologize for coming off as an ignorant ass but you need to also step back and see my point of view..i know of people that are fully capable of walking across a parking lot and choose to use their grandma's or handicapped relative's parking pass(its a thingy you stick on the rear view mirror here)..it brings in the why should they get special treatment argument if their are fully healthy, but i also realise its damn dear impossible to tell whos in need and who isen't at any given time in a parking lot without getting out and playing 20 questions with them..i will admit i was partially wrong but not every person that uses handicap parking needs it...

Clearly, you either understand that it's illegal parking, or you don't understand.

You can try to justify it however you feel it suits your needs.

Just because some people choose to take advantage of the system, does not make it OK for others to do it. I won't be wasting anymore of my time trying to get through to you, it's obviously pointless.

I under stand what jro909 is saying I broke my back and neck but I don't look likeI am HC and I have had some people say something to me. But you realy don't know who is and who isn't I don't have the thing that hangs on the mirror I have plates which are harder to get. So all I can hope is that people that use the HC spots are the people tat needs them born to fish I hope your wife is doing good.

I'm sorry but I'm just not capable of understanding that logic...... That's just like saying.... "Hey, a lot of people rob banks so what's wrong with me taking a little money out of the Church collection plate? I think of myself as a tax paying hard working citizen can qualify for $5 out of the collection plate for lunch once in awhile".

 

I understand what you are saying..... I see buff looking people (with HC plates) parking in HC parking once in awhile and I ask myself, "Why" but I also understand that there are a lot of reasons that people have HC plates (they don't just hand those things out). I try not to judge them. I certainly wouldn't extrapolate that the person is a chronic smoker or otherwise deserves what he/she has and that I should have just as much right to park there as that person does because "I pay taxes"..

 

If that's truly the way that you feel, I suggest that you write a letter to your Congressman and express that feeling.

 

What I do (and encourage others to do) is call Parking Enforcement (Los Angeles 213-485-4184 programmed in my cell phone) when I see a car in HC parking without the proper ID. Around here, the police respond pretty quickly to that because they need the revenue...... I never use HC parking even though our car has HC plates....... I'd walk 5 miles 1st.

 

What my wife does is park in non-HC parking, whenever possible, so that other HC persons may have a place to park because she knows that ther are "5-Minute parkers", like you that force them to have to walk from distances that they really shouldn't.
