1950 GMC Truck revival

I just bought a 1950 GMC Truck and I want to restore it or make it look like a 1950 Chevy Truck and add some wood features like rebuilt Oak bed and Oak Rails. I am new to this or any car work for about 50 years, I am 69 years young and a long time Chevy nut. I have owned several Chevy coupe, convertibles and trucks over the years but never older than five to ten years. I want to relive my fifty years I guess.

 

I need help getting started on this project. I assume I have a lot of research to do so I can understand what I am seeing under the hood. It seems like someone had this running within a year or so since the hoses are not too bad even though the engine looks original but it has been upgraded to 12 volt and maybe converted to a Chevy straight six from the GMC straight six.
