Flowmaster 40 series or Super 10?

I am looking to replace the factory exhaust on my '09 Silverado 6.2L. I will be going to a dual exhaust. Has anyone put a flowmaster 40 or super 10 on the 6.2L yet? I would like to find out how loud it will be. If anyone has a sound clip that would be helpful too. Thanks.

I do not have a 6.2, but rather a 5.3.

I tried a 50 delta flow on mine and the interior droan was over the top (for ME) --- totally obnoxious. I can only imagine that with duals that would be VERY loud inside. Again, this is subjective, as everyone likes different things.

I went to a 70 big block II, which cut down on the interior droan significantly. OUTside, it still has a throaty V8 rumble at idle, and, along with the CAI it screams when you romp on it.

I have some clips, not sure how much they may, or may not, assist you, but:

I would suggest getting a quality muffler, I used to have a flow 40 and I'm EXTREMELY happy I ditched it. It sounded like every other truck on the road, it droned like no other, they barely flow better than a stock muffler (hell I wouldn't be surprised if your stock one flowed better), and one of the baffles inside it broke. With you living on MN I'd be surprised if a flow would last two years because all the salt they put on the roads up there.

I suggest Spintech foremost, then Borla, and lastly Magnaflow. I would never even consider buying a Flowdisaster.

I have a Flowmaster 40 dual out on my 08 Z71 5.3 and I love it. It sounds great. I don't hear this drone that people speak of. My wife has a 09 Yukon Texas and it has the GM performance exhaust on it and I do like it better. It has a real nice rumble when at idle, and gets a bit of a growl when getting on it. I would do the GM performance pipe if you have the money, but I still love my FM 40.

If you don't like it LOUD don't get a 10 series. The best way I can explain it is take a no muffler setup intesity with the Flowmaster sound. I love it loud but hate any crackle/pop sound, the 10 series was perfect for me.

I have dual super 44s and like them. No droan in the cab. Not too loud at idle but she can talk when you want it to. Thats on 8.1, not sure how the 6.2 would compare.

I actually like a loud truck. My last one was a 5.3L with straight pipes. To me it wasn't loud enough. Had to really tromp on it to even hear something. Was kinda hoping to find someone with a 6.2L to compare with. My brother has a 6.0L with true dual straight pipes and his is extremely loud. Even too loud for what I like. My mechanic recommended the 40 series. I found one video of the 10 series and i think that might be too much.

My super 40 + 5.3L is pretty quiet but sounds like a truck should, maybe comparable to those new dodges with factory duals. But it was stupid loud on my 4.3 S10..? Must be the tail pipe lengths, cats and stuff.

I have a Magnaflow on my 6.2. Sounds really good. Not too loud at idle or cruising, and loud as hell at wot. Don't like flowmasters or spintechs. Borla is good too.

If you like straight pipes then a 40 series won't be loud enough for you, trust me I have ran both on Chevy trucks. The 10 series is not as loud as straight pipes and has the flowmaster growl. I loved mine on my GMT 900 '07 and recieved compliments all the time on it but, it does drone. I just don't care about drone.

Same setup is going on my current truck in the spring. 10 series 3" in/dual 2.5" out, finished off at a 45 degree angle with 3" diameter 18" long stainless tips.

It has been shown that Flowmasters really don't flow; my personal experience on my '98 5.7 Silverado validates that. That said, from a performance and driveability standpoint, I wouldn't touch the stock exhaust on a 6.2 (I don't plan to change mine). With the advent of VVT, factory exhaust systems are, more than ever, specifically tuned to the motor to provide the proper back pressure necessary at light to moderate throttle to develop low end torque as well as open up to allow for more than adequate flow under WOT or near WOT conditions. Besides, it sounds just healthy enough outside to alert the ears of the curious to the presence of something a little bit bigger than the average bear sleeping under the hood, while still keeping things quiet enough in the cab to hear the boogie box or my wife's banter clearly. But, to each their own; this is the beauty of living in a free country.

"Proper backpressure" lol

Backpressure is a load of crap, the ideal exhaust system has no backpressure. Alot of people get the concept of backpressure mixed up with exhaust velocity.

As for the get a cherry bomb if a flow isn't loud enough comment, have you ever heard a Borla XR1? Bricks would be shat

I have the Flowmaster 40 on my truck and it sounds sweet. I get compliments on it all the time. I'm not concerned with any negative comments made by people on this site about Flowmaster. The amount of compliments from people who have heard this muffler will by far outweigh any negative opinions.
