Hello fellow Chevy fanatics! I am new to this site and I just recently bought a 1989 chevy 1500 cheyenne with a 4.3l and a 5-speed manual. I was wondering if anybody had any tips on cleaning throttle body injectors. I am not getting the mpg I want and its running rich. Also I was wondering if I cut off the catalytic converter and ran a straight pipe into my muffler if I would gain anything besides a more aggresive sounding exhaust. Thanks for your time.

Welcome! Try running a fuel system cleaner like gumout or STP. Cutting the cat off won't help any unless its clogged up. Might check out the o2 sensor if its running rich.

Thanks everybody for the welcoming to the site. I recently replaced the o2 sensor,so its not that. I found out that the previous owner switched out the stock throttle body with one from a 5.7l. I think the injectors are dumping too much gas into my 4.3l. Does that sound like the problem or are some of the parts from the 2 different engines really interchangeable?
