Set timming on a 2000 K2500

How do i set the timming on a 2000 Chevy K2500 with the 5.7L ? its my son's truck and was having some problems with it and a guy told him the dist. was bad told him the gear goes bad on these motors? anyhow he switched it out for another dist. and now he needs to reset the timming as its really off ( won't even pop)this the older style truck and any help you can give us would be great ! as we need to get it going and back on the road , Thanks again.

i tried to copy and paste from a manual but it didnt like the number of pics ,lol

 

maybe someone else can do it ,its fairly involved and there are 2 ways to do the distibutor installation,and if a tooth out a code WILL be produced lol
