most the time i think cops are so bored they have to drive around an look for cars each one with little problems...

Imagine the audacity some people have for actually doing their jobs... FYI, most agencies have a traffic enforcement division that does just that.

Cars don't get pulled over just for the fact that they have a taillight or headlight out. Yes it is the law to have 2 working lights, however there is so much more to it than that. A car that gets pulled over for a headlight violation could be occupied by a drunk driver with a suspended license and an outstanding murder warrant; 2 pounds of marijuana; a kilo of cocaine; and a fully automatic illegal firearm. You never know what will come out of pulling that car over. Yes, that specific scenario doesn't play out too often, but it is a matter of numbers. If you pull over enough cars for minor equipment violations you are bound to find something. I can't count how many times I have arrested a drunk driver driving a vehicle with something as minor as a headlight out.

But yes there are douchebag officers out there that will write every stop sign ticket they can because, "NOBODY runs MY stop signs!!" People like that give the rest of us bad a name, but we deal with it the best we can.

which pisses me off a hell of alot more to think those assholes give me a ticket when im already pretty much giving them their pay check....i do niot understand why they have to be such pricks to the ones who put food on THEIR table

You've had your whine time. Time to move on

Well shit. Since you pay my salary, I want to know whose I'm paying? Maybe I'm putting food on some water chunkers table....

Yup, that's what we do.........Follow the laws and you will not get a ticket. If you don't want to "put food on their tables", don't pay your taxes!

You guys don't realize how difficult this job is unless you do it, not always a picnic.

Amen! I know I'm not getting rich at it either! I got into this line of work to help people. Always a good deal making $32000.00 a year dealing with stuff that others don't want to lol!!

Not an easy job being a cop when it comes to public perception. I know if your seen hanging out at the local gas station drinking a cup of coffee you hear "is that all you got to do, it must be nice to have a job like that". In the event you leave the gas station and go stop a few cars then your a prick for that, just can't win for losing lol. Law Enforcement is like a utility like water or electric, not many have a care in the world about it until they need it, what if it wasn't there? You ever flip a light switch when the powers off or turn on the water when it's off, it's what we're used to and we just always figure it's there. I like the folks that call and complain about a cop driving to fast, of course unless the cops are going to their house then they call and complain asking whats taking them so long lol. I also love the ones that complain that there's to many cops, of course until they come home and their doors been kicked open and they've been burglarized, or their kid is missing then they want 50 cops, 14 detectives and 3 CSI labs set up lol! All it takes is a few guys who strap on a gun and a badge to turn into superman to make us all look bad and Lord knows there's plenty of them. However there's alot of good ones to, I've always said being a good cop requires 95% common sense and treat people like you want to be treated. I starting working as a reserve officer in 1994 then went full time in 1998 and still hanging in there, spent 6 years as police chief. I have seen some pricks in uniform and never wanted a reputation like that. I'm not ragging or preaching to you Joey. I understand your concern nobody likes to pay tickets they ain't cheap, if everything checks out ok on your registration and you can prove it chances are they'll throw that one out (they would here). The parking issue who knows they kinda got ya there, something else to think about and not sure how it works out there but I know we've had some insurance companies not cover a claim when somebodies vehicle has gotten hit just because it was improperly parked, that would suck. Sorry for the long winded post :-)!
i understand the duties of law enforcement but it just kinda makes me laugh and pissed at the same time that in the one day that i had to jump start my other truck(which is why it was parked the opposite direction)it only took 1 day for a bored local to slap it with a ticket right in front of home..i mean really theres one parking space my girlfriend uses so i have to park acrss the house..my dad was a sheriff for a long time so i come from a cop environment.and i respect cops.it gets hard when they dont me but i try to be nice.it is the first ticket i have ever gotten since i got my driver license an i pride myself on that. geuss the first is the worst...dont get me wrong i love it when i get pulled over by a cool cop cause i never expect him to be so nice.but it bugs me i already paid the reg its just pending smog.i admit i was in the wrong for parking the wrong way but i was jump starting my other truck.my truck that got a ticket didnt even have a battery in it cause i had to end up swapping.still my fault i guess

I can tell ya you wouldn't have gotten a ticket for either offense here maybe a written warning but we live in a rural community in Indiana it might be different out there. I would've thought the guy could've cut you a break and done the same thing with just warning right or wrong. I know I get aggravated at a few guys around here that just want to chase tail lights when theirs some guy selling drugs on the sidewalk they just flew by. I try to prioritize things and an equipment violation doesn't rate real high on my list lol. I know some think the departments get rich off of writing tickets, I will say around here that's not true. On a $125.00 ticket we see $3.00 of it the rest goes to the state and the county.

Ya, but who pays your wages, fuel, car, union dues, and pension? We (the state or county) do.

No union dues or pension here and I make a whopping $32,000.00 a year. I was a certified welder for several years making a hell of alot more than that but wanted a job helping people and my community. I'm not here to argue just trying to help spread the word that just because theres some ticket writting fools out there that not everyone who wears a badge is a bad guy.

I wonder if anyone has given any thought that maybe somebody (a tax paying citizen) may have called in and complained about the vehicle being parked wrong. The tax paying citizens pay our wages, fuel, car, union dues and pension so when they call they expect results lol!

A funny story, my aunt called me a few weeks ago complaing about an officer that had sat down the road near her house for 2 hours a day almost everyday. She asked me "doesn't he have anything better to do than just sit on his ass everyday". The funny part is she didn't realize that one of her friends and neighbors had called the sheriff's dept asking for extra patrol on that road because of speeding semis. Kinda goes back to my theroy sometimes you can't win, couldn't win with my aunt cause she complained about the officer just setting there, and if we hadn't done some extras patrols in the area the tax paying citizen that requested our help would've complained lol!!

you are probably the same type of dick cops that most people are used to.yes the audacity to give a tax payer a ticket who already pays taxes so cops can "serve and protect"

and oh ya eat have a place to live and keep a job.....

+1

Do you need some anal ease or something? Because you sure are butthurt over this whole thing.

As far as being a taxpayer, why should you get any special treatment? I pay taxes in the county I work in so am I paying my OWN salary? Seems that way if your logic is right. What kind of privileges should I get for that?

Cops are not tax exempt! Nothing ticks most cops of more than those that forget or realize that they pay taxes too! And more than many! So does that make them thier own boss? Look at thier check stub, they pay union dues, pension (cause thats in place of social sec they wont get), and tax....local, state, federal! Thats how everything works, I buy a burger at the burger joint and I just paid the employees wage! We are all financially connected in a round about way, It dont mean anything else is owed.

I would like to thank "you" for my home, my beautiful truck, and the food that you provide. I realize now that if it weren't for people like you, I wouldn't have any of those things. People who refuse to take accountability for their actions and blame others. People who feel that they are entitled and superior. People who are hypocritical and narrow minded. People who think that laws don't apply to them. Thankyou for enlightening me.

the only reason this got so strung out into what it is is because matt turned it into this(which i forgot how he did it) but im not going to ramble with him anymore...

    • Have considered installing a DC to DC charger in your camper to replace your isolator?
    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
