Traction control or not in snow?

Recommended Posts

Im just trying to get an idea who prefers the traction control on or off in the snow? I personally prefer it off and just let the G80 do it's job. The traction control just isn't much fun

I turn off traction control and stabilitrac ALL the time, regardless of weather or road conditions. Over the course of 48 years of driving, I've done just fine without it, thank you.

I have traction control, but i don't think i have the stabilitrac on my '07 Sierra NBS.....but i'm in Ontario, Canada so mybe Canadian models don't have that

I believe Stabilitrak was standard on 07+ (I have it on mine, and I'm in BC)

If you hold the Traction Control button down for 5 seconds, you can toggle Stabilitrak. Your Info Centre will say "Stabilitrak OFF" then press it again and hold it down 5 sec to turn it back on.

I just re-read my owners manual and it said the traction control and stabilitrac was the same button. Push one time to turn off the traction control, hold for 5 seconds to turn off the stabilitrac.

Also, been in North Dakota for 2 1/2 winters and never had turned anything off while driving in snow. I am going to have to try it with the traction control off and see if I can tell any differance.

Ok now I'm curious about the difference between stabilitrak and traction cOntrol

Traction control definately off, makes a pickup almost worthless in deep snow.

stabilatrac uses the brakes to keep you in a straight line, worked well when the wind tried to blow my truck off the icy highway last winter, started to turn sideways and truck corrected itself immediately.

usually always hold the button for 7seconds... hate that traction/stability control crap.

i wish the computer could b programmed to start with both disabled

i finally tried my truck in the snow. traction control was left on and it got a workout. tried it without, great for the drifting olympics. lol. you really dont want wheel spin in the snow it creates ice under the tires. doesnt bother me either way. if i need traction i select auto 4wd and let it do its job :D

I wish I had the Auto 4wd. Sucks when the roads are clean at some spots but snow covered in others and i don't like leaving the 4wd on the parts that are sorta clean. It sucks having to be basically crawling to switch in an out of 4wd

The traction control is worthless..a small amout of wheel spin usually isn't the end od the world and if its that slippery the four wheel drive is the way to go..now on the wifes g8 it works much better then in the truck...always thought my trucks trac control was way too obtrusive.

Bout to test mine out in the snow, we got about 3 feet in the last 24 hours

Ya we just got around 20 inches of snow. I turning off the stabilitrak and traction control is much more fun. I didn't know that holding the button turns off both.

wish we had some snow... highways and roads are dry around here :dunno:
