Onstar app

I installed the onstar app on my phone. I have a 2010 sierra and tried the app because a buddy of mine uses it with his 2010 suburban. I was under the impression that it didnt work with any 2010 vehicle. I tried it and it says my truck isnt able to use the app. Anyone else have this problem? Why would 10 suburban be able to use and not the 10 sierra?

Thanks

Some models in 2010 are able to use the app and some ar not. Doesnt make sense at all

only works with select SUVs and some select vehicles for 2010,and at that only ones within a certain build date range, the Trucks (Sierra and Silverado) were not included in the roll out. All 2011 vehicles (far as I know) can use it.

OnStar has stated in several facebook chat sessions that they will not be adding any more older vehicles to the app, as the hardware is too old and not compadible.

I gotta say I really like the app, its definitely come in handy a few times. "Crap, need in the truck but dont have my keys.. wait... i have my phone!!"

I use it to start the truck almost every morning as the barn is out of range for the key fob. Getting into a warm cab is nice. Right now I'm in Minnesota, the truck is in Boston but I know I have 20 gallons of gas left and that my tires are all properly inflated, among other things.

I also just sent directions to get me home to the truck, so they'll be there as soon as I leave. Granted I know the drive home from Logan all too well but it's still cool I can do that.

Too bad we have to subscribe to onstar to use the app. I love it. But im getting rid of onstar at the end of my trial. Not worth $18-28/mo to me.

I had it on one of my old phones havent put it on my new one but the app is handy. And the cost of onstar is worth it since I get at least that amount or more discounted for having onstar with my insurance company.

I don't understand why it's limited to 2010+ select models. Anyone with Onstar has an automatic monthly diagnostic check and status email, so the basic capability is already there to monitor and control the service. What is it about my 2008 that limits my ability to unlock my doors through an app when an Onstar service rep can do it when I call and request it? Why can an Onstar service rep track my vehicle via GPS but I have no way of doing this online or via an app?

Hi pahick - You can get insurance discounts for having OnStar through State Farm, Liberty Mutual, GMAC, Plymouth Rock, and 21st Century. It does depend on your state but it might be worth checking out. Here's a link with some more info if you're interested http://onstarconnections.com/2010/02/get-the-insurance-discount-you-deserve/ I do digital work for OnStar and just wanted to share. Just follow the link at the bottom of the story, and then click "See participating insurers in your state" and a box will pop up with the info.
