i need help! we were putting a new stereo in my brothers new 2005 tahoe z71. we disconnected the battery, reconnected it to test and the truck wouldn't turn over.

we tried jumping it and it didn't work. we put a new battery in it, and it didn't work. the engine turns on but immediately shuts off like its got no gas. the fuel pump is priming the system so gas is getting sent to the fuel rail. it has gas in the tank.

add to all that, the guage cluster lights and dash lights work but none of the accessories inside including the radio will work. a/c won't blow air, but the lights on the controls work. headlights work.

i read something online about passkey security on GMs but not sure it could be that. we checked the fuses we thought could be the culprit but they were all fine.

anybody have a clue?

I throw this out every time you have no start problem that worked for me. Take and lock and then unlock the doors using the remote, I know that it sounds dumb but I had problems one time with truck not starting and I left to get someone to pull me home and when I came back I used the remote to unlock the doors and the truck started up like there had never been any problems. :jester:

Did you check ALL the underhood fuses? Are you SURE one isn't blown?

i hope this would work... only one problem, the remote is broken! he has to get a new one...

yes, is there one in particular you think is blown. nothing inside the truck works except the gauge and dash lights.

Is the new deck still in there? If so, unplug it and put the factory one back in and see if the issue goes away. Those trucks come apart fast so it's a 5 minute job. I'll be waiting.

yeah we just took it out because he left the windows down and now the buttons won't operate. still nothing.

Did you just take out the old deck or did you re-install the factory deck? I don't know if everything will run okay with no radio present.

no i plugged the factory one in and still nothing. none of the overhead lights or window/lock buttons work. the only thing electrical working is the head and tail lights, and the gauge cluster and dash lights. the needles in the gauge cluster aren't even moving

This isn't related to the security system. I would double check any fuses labeled BCM, data, bus, lan ( I'm guessing at the labels at this point but I think either the BCM isn't getting power or there is a data bus failure). Don't forget there is a in cab fuse panel as well as underhood.

alright, i'll have them re-check those this morning. i gave up last night and went home!

Yeah I'd check them all - inside and out in that case. Doesn't sound like a Passlock issue your having - that only affects the engine. It will start & run for about a second, then die.

I had an issue with Passlock on a 00 GMC Jimmy the wife used to drive as a winter beater. Was pulling my hair out all day and it ended up being one of the under hood fuses. Then after that I had a failure-per-day for about a month straight, so I parted it out & replaced the vehicle with an '89 S10. Problem solved.

That was a while ago, so I forget the fuse name. Either way, pull each & every single one underhood & in the instrument panel, & check closely. To be 100% sure do a continuity test on each one. Time consuming, but doesn't cost you anything.

the truck was towed to the mechanic that does most of the work for my parents. they said there is an electical short somewhere that is causing the problems. i have a feeling the previous owner had a sound system in the truck and wired something funky. the shop has an electrician hunting down the short. i wish i would've gone with them to look at it before they bought it, its a little rough around the edges... i would have told them to pass and find something else.

so the mechanic got the truck running. he disconnected the factory bose amp thats under the center lower dash panel and removed the fuse to it, and everything magically was working again! those were his words. is this the VCIM that runs onstar also? i know thats where the VCIM is located on my NNBS.

anybody have any input as to what just happened? he says that factory amp is fried. probably happened when my brother was being stupid playing with the +/- battery cables!

he said in order to get a stereo to work we will have to bypass that amp, by running new wires to each speaker. i'm think maybe, we can just run them from the radio, down to that amp to the speaker output wires instead of rewiring all the way to each speaker.
