Funny.... I just checked my email and yet another xm offer. They are turning it on for free from 2/1 to 2/14 and I can subscribe for $25 for 6 months. No thanks. I'm not worried about Onstar saving me in an accident. When's the last time you were the only car on a road. Not where I live at least. I'm not knocking it. If it makes you feel better when you drive, by all means get it. I don't see me getting a "life alert" to wear around my neck when I get old either. If I fall down in my house, alone, I guess I'll be in trouble. :)

Same here...just got a renewal offer from Sirius/XM offering 6 months for $25.

My renewal was about $148 for 15 months and another free 100 call minutes and my existing call minutes all rolled over. I may

call them and see if I can add another 6 months for $25!!!!! When I called them I signed up for the 12 month plan but said I

wanted the free 3 month offer and the 100 free minutes. I have never paid for call minutes since 2008.

"When's the last time you were the only car on a road."

Well for those who do a regular commute on the same roads over and over in a city/suburban environment, all may be true.

When I travel across country I will sometimes get off interstate and drive on some of the state roads. I have driven some in northern Texas where I didn't see a car moving for an hour or more. Get off the beaten path in any of the mid-west states and sometimes there is absolutely nothing for hours.

I drove on state route 83 heading north in N. Dakota. Absolutely nothing for hours. I did see one sign that stated "Birthplace of Lawrence Welk" and it was 11 miles down a dirt road. I skipped the visit of Mr. Welk's home.

But yes, for the most part I only drive less then 100 miles from home. With a cell phone and a Garmin one does not need any of this stuff.

You might not be the only car on the road, but there is always the possibility of being left unconscious after an accident. In that event, OnStar can send emergency help to your exact position, like we did for this subscriber who was left unconscious after being hit head-on http://onstarconnections.com/2011/04/drunk-driver-hits-doctor-head-on-%E2%80%94-leaving-her-injured-unconscious-and-alone/ I do digital work for OnStar and saw this, so I just wanted to share :)

I am another elderly trucker and find the onstar benefits useful. In addition I receive a discount from State Farm due to low mileage monitored by onstar. This brings down the annual cost, at least for me in Texas. For renewals I use a virtual credit card with a limit set below the annual fee. If for some reason I don't want to renew, I cancel but in any event it will not renew unless I increase the limit. This type of vcc is offered by most Citicards and offers a more secure way to purchase online without having your credit card "on file" on questionable servers. Onstar is now offering the base plan for $289 but I will try the phone approach to see if I can get a few extra months.

You'd save about $18 a month... :rollin:

I've had mine active since day one, peace of mind for me and the kids traveling with me.
