20" rims on a '05 2500HD?

I can get an excellent deal on a set of used 20's for my 2005 GMC with snow plow prep pkg., but I have no idea what tire to put on them. I currently am running a set of 285's on the stock alloys w/ the bars cranked abt. 1 1/2" without any issues even with the plow hooked up. If I go with the 20's it wil be strictly a summer tire and I will keep the stock rims and 285's for plowing/winter set-up.

I would like to at least stay with that tall of a tire or maybe go a bit taller if I get 20's, but not have to buy a lift. Can anyone tell me what size tire in a 20 I can go with or pics of you guys running 20's would be great! Also, are there any hidden bugs I need to know about going this far up in wheel size that I would need to worry about? Thanks in advance!

2012 2500's with oem 20" wheels come with 265/55/20 tires. TIrerack says for 2010 the 2500 oem 20" wheels came with 285/55/20 tires. So you have some options for tires. YOu didn't list your complete tire specs so we don't know how tall a tire you have now. 285 is the width spec. No hidden bugs with running 20"s.

definitly go bigger than a 275/65/20, I had that size on an 05 CC LB sierra and they looked tiny

I would go 295 60 20,

I ran 305/55/20s on aftermarket wheels on my 03 HD. I cranked, trimmed, and hammered some sheet metal and they would still rub in tight turns. Depending on the wheels, 295/55/20s may work a little better.

Thanks everyone for the input. I am currently running the 285/65R16 on the stock alloys. Sorry for that omission! I want to stay at least as tall as the current 285's and maybe have a litte extra room, but probably not much since the 20" rims will def be wider therefore creating some rubbing with much bigger than what I have. I figured the 305's would be too much.

Any more info is GREATLY appreciated before I write a check for new rubber!

285/75/16?? Don't think there is a 285/65/16... A 275/60/20 would be a 33" tall tire and would be 99% identical to the height of the 285/75/16, and is a bit narrower. A 295/55/20 would be the same height as a 285/75/16 but be around a 1/2 inch wider.

Pics?? Might have been a dealer outfitted "special" model by an outfitter company. Otherwise, to my knowledge, GM never put them on from the assembly plant until 2011.
