5.3 Oil Usage

O.K, So I found out today that my truck (07 Sierra, 5.3 NBS) was approved by the dealership to replace the rings in engine. Its gone thru 2 1/2 quarts between changes.

To make a long story short, This dealer is not the one I bought the truck from and had feelings that the dealer I purchased from was not totally up front with me as they said nothing had been done to the engine and was reluctant to give me the name of the original owner for questioning. I asked 2nd dealer if they could give me background service work done which they did and found out that all other fixes for oil usage had been done.

So now they are going to do the re-ring without doing the oil consumption test. Which I am grateful for. They have done work for me in the past with great satisfaction.

Now my question is, has anyone had the re-ring done and what was the outcome? Their telling me they are honing cylinders, replacing rings and gaskets. Are rings standard bore or are they 1 thousands over! Any feedback would be appreciated.

By the way, "Cudo's to Bob Clyse GMC in Ironton Ohio."

Sorry to hear that.......Should have been a red flag though when the dealer refused to give you any information on the truck. Don't ever buy anything that the dealer will not give you information on.

It was my understanding that the oil usage trucks were having the AFM lifters replaced with an updated/better lifter. Hopefully this 2nd dealer can get it taken care of for you....Good luck and keep us posted.

First of all. Thanks to the mods for moving my post.

I took my truck to the dealer today, should be back friday. They are assuring me that the re-ring will fix the problem.

According to the 2nd dealer all the other "Fixes" have already been done so hopefully this will be the last fix.

Took truck into shop last wed, picked it up Friday afternoon and so far

It seems fine. Just have to drive it a bit and keep watch on oil level.

Will comment in about 1000 miles.
