Adjusting steering wheel?

Recommended Posts

I just had an alignment done and I feel like my steering wheel is a 1/4" to the right and it's driving my crazy. Anyway to adjust this without going back to the shop?

You could do it by yourself if you want to. If you adjust the length of the tie rods, you can straighten the wheel. Shorten one side by one turn, and length the other by the exact same amount. If the adjusts are done equally is the opposite direction of each other, you can get the wheel centered.

I think you need to lengthen the right side, and shorten the left side. Make sure you do this exactly the same on each side. Otherwise your toe setting will be wrong.

Take it back to them. Centering the steering wheel is part of the alignment.

yeah i figured that. Even with the slope of the road towards the right.. my steering wheel is still a 1/4-1/2" turned to the right to keep it straight... it drives straight without holding the wheel, just its one of those things that drive you crazy.

I'd say the shop messed up to have let it go back to you with the steering wheel off that much. Sloppy work.

I have the alignment report. Everything seems good. After the RC level, the toe was really the only thing off but regardless, I'll be calling in the morning to bring it back Friday.

Ok appointment booked. Is there anyway te RC kit or the new tires will cause issues when aligning? Just want to go in there being able to know what I'm taking about if they try to say the level lift or the tires are the problem.
