Ford Story

On the way to work this morning I came upon a ford explorer broke down in the middle of the road. The guy was trying to push it off the road into a driveway. The dude looked like he was going to give himself a hernia so I got out to give him a hand. I asked what he thought was wrong. He said he thought it had dropped the rear u-joint. I took a look under and sure enough the drive shaft was on the ground. I said dude, isn't this a 4x4. He said, yea! I said why not just put it in 4x4 and very gently pull it off the road. It looked like he had dragged the drive shaft a ways down the road so I figured what's a few more feet. Heck I've taken my old GMC Jimmy limping back to the barn many times on just the front end. :thumb:

I'll bet if you polled all the 4x4 owners here in the West End of Richmond, VA, you would find that probably a third of the people do not know whether there ride is a 4x4 or not, more or less how to use it. 4x4's are just a status symbol in that area.  :(

The Ford Expeditions and the Lincoln Navigators are the worst out there.

Yes they are.  I bleed Ford blue, but I despise the Expe/Navi platform.  They are too low and obese to be of any use off road.  They are expensive.  They are slow and lumbering.  They are ugly as s*%t.  And ####!  Can't people fold a seat by themselves anymore?  I could go on and on.  Many SUVs have become rediculous status symbols that are a disgrace to their roots and heritage.  Sorry for the rant...

I have to agree with Paco for once.  I've been screaming the same thing for years about the Expo and Navigator.  Who the heII needs power folding rear seats?  I could fold my Tahoe's rear seats and have the cargo area loaded before the ford had it's rear seats dropped!  Or power hidable running boards?  Or other slow useless features ford adds to their SUV's that in turn jack the pricetag.

Sorry, I guess I'm more form the old school of form follows function and simplicity.

Count me in with the old school as well.  A lot of the multi-purpose or utility vehicles have gotten soft over the years.  #### even my 92 Jimmy required some effort to fold the seat, etc.  Thanks mom...soccer mom that is.

At least he knew what a U-joint and a drive shaft were... :(

On the subject of poeple not knowing what they drive, a buddy of mine who worked at Pep-Boys has some good stories of people coming in and not only not knowing the year of the car, but having a hard time guessing the size of their engine when asked...

By the same token, the G/F's father and I went into Pep Boys cause he was looking for a driveshaft LOOP.

The kid in back insisted that they had no driveshaft LUBE!  NO!!!  A DRIVESHAFT L-O-O-P!

He had no clue what one of those was.
