Correct, that includes the 5.3L and the 6.0L Vortec Max...........The 4.8L and 6.2L don't offer it in a truck, yet.

UPDATE: The technical bulliten didn't fix the problem as I was a quart low after only 2,600 miles. I took it back to dealer and there must be another bulliten for this problem as they replaced the pistons and rings, as well as an exhaust manifold and radiator. Hopefully this will fix the problem, but again, only time will tell!!

Have it tuned out or it WILL happen again. Whoever thought of the cylinder deactivation should be fired. It's the dumbest idea for present day engines. I have had mine tuned out since the truck was new and I get better MPG's than my brother's truck with it on. Shutting down 4 cylinders and then having them come back on all the time is not good, no matter what the manufacturers will tell you.

It's not only GM that has this issue, it's every manufacturer that offers this crap. GM, Dodge, Honda. Funny how the vehicles made by these people that don't have the so called fuel saving crap don't have any issues. It doesn't take a genius to realize what the problem is. How many 6.2L GM trucks do you see that have to be rebuilt like these AFM equipped trucks do?

Get rid of this crap, we don't want it. If you do want it just put a 4cyl. engine in the trucks. At least this way they wouldn't have to rebuild the motors because they would function properly.

2009 5.3 Silverado } I had a Justin Tune at about 8000. Now have 22000. No Oil Problem. But I AM going to get new Justin Tune with AFM turned off before the problem starts. Hopefully I am making the switch in time.

Another update: Since they replaced pistons and rings, and 4100 miles later, I was getting close to an oil change and noticed the oil level was low. I took it to dealer for oil change and asked them first to check the level. They said the oil level was "very low" and ordered a new engine! Wow. It does seem there is an issue with the design of the AFM engine, but unlike some other folks with same problem, my dealer has been very good about doing everything they can to 'make it right'.

Wish I had known about the problem before buying my truck with no warranty left... GM or the dealers will throw me out the door now... I don't think they will stand up to their product with such a design flaw...

I decided to log on here to share on this GM oil consumption issue after battling with it on my son's 2004 Vortex 6.0. Is sucked oil at 2vquarts in 400 miles. Blue smoke at start up. No leaks and 200 psi compression across all cylinders. Plugs where white and oil was pooling in the plug wells. I took off drivers side valve cover with pvc and cleaned it out real well. Put back on and it ran better than ever. About 2 weeks later started sucking oil like before. Replaced valve cover with new design one with rectangular hole offset from being over rocker. Doesn't use any oil now between changes and has better power. Still sucks same gas. The 5.3 has the same issue. Get the updated valve cover to stop blowing oil directly into the baffle. Round hole one is no good. Hope this helps.
