Lower Steering Column Bearing

Recommended Posts

Has anybody ever replaced their lower steering column bearing in their GMT-800 themselves? Mine is definitely going bad (rattling/shaking) It seems rather complicated. However, for a 25 dollar part I would hate to pay 150 bucks labor. I do most of my own repairs.

Are you sure it's the bearing and not the intermediate steering shaft problem? (common)

Yeah, when I was replacing iss I realized that the shaft inside bearing was rattling like hell. The shop manual calls for removing steering wheel, column, ignition switch. Couldn't I just remove the iss and take the bearing off at the bottom?

i unplug the air bag and carry on ,or take the fuse out first ,,,getting the air bag off can be a bear trying to figure out which way to move the tang to release the air bag,,you have to look close in the hole or have a decent pic of how to do it
