G80 Rearend Clunk??

Recommended Posts

I have seen topics about the G80 clunking, and was wondering if anyone has found a way to cure it or make it better?? This is the first year that I had my truck, and now that its snowing, it clunks quit often when accelerating from a stop spinning the tires. Is it any better with the '03?

That's a normal sound and I don't know how you could quiet it down any.  That is the sound it makes when it engages both wheels...

Yup, I'll confirm that. I'm on my third truck with the G80 rearend and they all have clunked, but they work flawlessly. I think it has to do with how they engage. Centrifigal force or something like that. There was another thread about it, in much more detail, around here recently.

No complaints from me however.

mine has been doing it since new.  It sounds like a gernade is going off in the rear end when it is engaging.  Works great and scares the heck out of the people behind me  :jester:

Hmm, wouldn't have minded a locker on my 99, but they did a locate and found a truck with all but 2 options- the locker and the cd & cassette combo.  Oh well, it's worked out well for now.
