I have a similar sound when backing out of the garage and turning the steering wheel to the right; only does it one time and thats it. Have you had any problem with the lower steering bearing on your truck?

Never checked it.... can you see it with out lifting the truck? the iss is new. I have yet to see a fix for this.....out side of new streering pump....

Take a flat head screwdriver and work it out of there.....I've changed mine twice, no big deal. The actual noise I was hearing was coming from the brake pedal bushing though.

I've had the same problem for years...with the moaning sound on the steering wheel. Sounds like its deeper down the shaft then near the stearing wheel. Seemed like a tough job wtih the brake booster right there so i never tried tackling it, besides not knowing exactly what to replace? My bmw did a similar thing but i think that was the clock spring.

Removed upper bearing? Yikes. I can't remember what I did to get the lower one out. It wasn't too hard though. I think I just disconnected the steering column right below the bearing, pulled it down, moved it to the right. I think I had to remove the gas pedal to give myself room.

Go to your local independent parts store, to compete against mass merchandisers they like their job and are more service oriented and generally more knowledge and experienced. Dorman makes everything you need, the number is 905-512 for lower bearing.

I have a 08 2500hd 6.0 and I've replaced pretty much all front end parts. Yet I still have loose steerimg. Lots of play in the wheel.

Thinking it maybe the steering column bearimg and / Or LSS.

07 and back easy enough tomreplCr but the 08 seems to have added a protective cover at the end of the column and can't get the bearing out. Do I have to remove the column now?
