Driver Information Center

Howdy!  I'm new here, having had come from the GrandAm GT website.  Just sold my '99 GrandAm and now have a 2003 Silverado LS 1500 with 4WD.

If knew what I know now, I would have done some more investigation about the options for the Silverado.  BAD JOB of salesmanship from the sales droid at my dealership.  I wish he had better informed me of the Driver Information Center. I didn't get the steering wheel with the access buttons. I would have paid extra for it, rather than the crippled version that I have now.

After doing a lot of digging on the internet, I'm assuming the computer in my truck actually has the full-blown version.  I just can't access it because I don't have the steering wheel controls and probably other interface hardware. I have found a few sites that demonstrate the addition of radio controls, but that isn't what I'm after.  I just want to be able to acees all the features of the DIC.

I found this:  Hgsdone's Driver Information Center Install, but there is no meat to explain what the guy is doing, except it gives just enough information to indicate that he's doing exactly what I want to do.  Also, a site that references him: Chane's Sierra 2500 HD, has dead links of his install instructions.  sigh........

If anyone has some ideas on this, I sure would appreciate it.

Well allow me to at least say welcome.  Quite the upgrade to a Silverado there.  You'll find plenty of good information here, I can assure you of that.

I've read, I'm i'm not sure if it's true, that the 03 clusters will have to be reprogramed if you find the switches that run the functions.

Also, The website you link in your thread, lead me to beleive that they are refering to 02 DICs.  If that's the case, 02 and 03 DIC are completely different animals.  They are controled and wired differently.

The 03 DICs are controlled by 4 wires coming off the back of the cluster and leading to a switch that is grounded.  All the functions that the DIC use for 03 are sent to the cluster.  So I think it's a matter of finding 4 switches that lead to grounds and reprograming your cluster.

Has anyone ever gotten an answer for this?

I just spent an hour back searching and I notice an alarming trend on this forum that a lot of threads never finish...IE, a question is asked...a follow up or two is made...some more questions arise, and then nothing... :flag:

Thanks guys...I actually have been checking in off and on with JP Customs for 2 years now...the answer has always been we don't know if you can tap into the DIC if you upgrade to a different stearing wheel or No you can't depending on when I email them and who answers.

I just sent them another email last night.

Thanks again. :flag::seeya:
