Alternator Selection? Some Advice Wanted Please

So I'm prepping for my E-Fan swap starting with alternator upgrade. Going from a 105 to a 145. So they have the Duralast Gold P/N:

DLG1923-16-4

for $159.99 plus $10 core and the regular Duralast P/N:

DL1923-16-4

for $139.99 plus $40 core. Both carry a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Does anyone have any insight on the differences? Does the Gold just add a new case and the regular a reused case?

Description of them;

I would look into an aftermarket alternator that gives you more bang for your buck. Nothing against duralast. I have used the product name before.

I like your truck. I am not big on the tow mirrors but still nice

I love the tow mirrors. But I tow about once a week too. Is the made in china thing a big deal? A lot of things are now days. World econ 101- globalization. Might look to a salvage yard for the 34"radiator.

The standard alternator reuses most all non-wearing parts not just the case. This will include the shaft, pulley, rotor, etc... There's nothing wrong with that.

From the description, the gold is a new alternator, the standard is a rebuilt. Both have lifetime warranty. Is the "new" worth $20 to you? If you are buying online, the gold is actually cheaper before you send the core back. If from a storefront, core does not matter, you will drop the old off when you buy the replacement so now it is just a matter of "new".

Save your money....I've been running electric fans on my 02 with the factory 105 amp alt for years now. Not only that but I'm running two audio amps as well.....the gauge dips a little at idle when the fans are running but is fine otherwise. Once again, it's been putting out the power for at least 6 years like that. When it dies I'm going with one from DB Electrical....you can find them on eBay or check out their website.

Well I want more amps because of my stereo and doing the e fans. also the power inverters that get ran on trips

Sounds like you've got it all figured out.....with the exception of buying an alternator from Autozone.....good luck.

I may not buy from autozone. May end up with a Delco just depends on funds availability

Im wondering the same thing, because I'm currently installing flex a lite e fans and already have a 1200 watt sub on the current 105 amp alternator. I didn't know which alternator fit the truck without mods (130,145,200,etc.) as well as which would work the best for my setup.

I may also be installing a speaker amp in the near future when funds allow, so that needs to be kept in mind. Also, the lights in the cab and in the cluster dim if my subs start hitting hard, so I think an alternator upgrade is necessary since I'm installing e fans. If anyone could help me out that would be great
