So here is a question for the folks on this site. 2006 Silverado with stock 17" wheels and tires get just as good MPG as 18" tires?

What does this group say to this? Better MPG with 18" or 17" ?

this is a little different, but i went from 265's on stock 16's to 285's on stock 17's and i did not notice and gain or loss in MPG

Did you recalibrate?

Tire height and weight is what matters, wheel size has little effect. Going from 30 to 31.5 tall you probably wouldn't notice a difference.

and tread. i went to a wider tire. i had a 255/70R16 and went to a 265/75R16 All Terrain. my mileage dropped. then i went to a 275/55R20 so wider and about the same height. but the current one has highway tread and my mileage went up

My mileage went south about 2 mpg when I put on my copper Zeon LTZs almost 3 yrs ago from the stock Goodyear ls2 275/55/20. Tread pattern will play an impact as well even if you stay with same exact tire size

i lost about 7-8mpg when i put my 32.8's on, but i have 3.08 gears AND have not re-calibrated yet.

like everyone is saying, weight is your key factor.

if i went to a light all terrain (cooper zeon ltz) i could gain back alot of those lost mpgs.

You lost 7-8 MPG by going to a 33" tire? :freak:

Correct. Might be my 3.08s that are hurting me but I drive from TX to LA every three days just about and best MPG I can get now is 13.

No big deal. No point in complaining Haha, that never fixed anything.

I noticed a 7-8 MPG drop when i went to 33`s as well. I went with a 10 ply M/T and got rid of em about 6 months later. I did look into weight, and the stocks are 39 pounds, my 33's were 54 pounds. (per tire)

also, I have a 4.8 with 3.42's and at highway speed, it ALWAYS wanted to shift.

Your figures will be way off if you did calibrate your speedometer for the differance in size.

Going from a 265/70/r17 to a 285/70/r17? I dont think so, only a couple%
