Hey guys,

I'm looking for some help regarding an engine problem I'm having with my 2011 GMC sierra 1500 crew cab. I recently just installed a k&n 63 series intake and throttle body spacer. The test drive worked out fine, but the next day I took a long drive and noticed some problems. First of all a check engine light came up. Then I noticed that at certain low rpms the engine seems to bog down for lack of a better term. The engine gets louder and when I give it a little gas, the rpms don't go up for a bit, and then they kind of jump up and the engine recovers.

I read some more information and decided to ditch the TBS. I then cleaned my MAS with some spray cleaner, hoping that the problem was just some of the oil from the new intake filter. The check engine light cleared right away but the strange engine bogging hasn't gone away. I'm not sure if this is what you call throttle lag or what but I really need to get this figured out. Should I try removing the K&N and reinstalling the factory air box? I don't see how the intake could be doing this. Is this a MAS problem? I have since added a Magnaflow exhaust and a bully dog gt tuner. The bogging or throttle lag or whatever it is, still happens. I really don't know what to do. I'm getting close to taking it to the dealer, but I'm worried about them saying I voided my warranty with the intake, exhaust, and tuner so I'd probably take off the intake and tuner first.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a possible MAF sensor, Did you disconnect it or touch the elements or damage them in any way when installing the new CAI?

I agree with Carder09, sounds like a MAF sensor malfuction.

Maybe it still learning the intake

I don't think its still learning the intake as I've had it on for some time now. I guess it could be the MAS but I don't think it was touched or damaged when installing the CAI. Like I said, I read about people having problems with TBSs so I removed mine. At the same time I cleaned the MAS with MAS cleaner as per the directions on the can. After that the check engine light went away but the bogging or lagging at lower rpms (1100) still remains. If it was the MAS wouldn't I have a check engine light up now? Is there any way to tell if it's the MAS without buying a new one and replacing it?

What code is stored the CE light comes on? Maybe you have a slight leak. Did you clean the throttle body?

I didn't check the code after the CE light came on. Will the code still be stored even if i've pulled the battery negative since then? I don't think it's a slight leak as I checked it since installed it and it doesn't appear to be leaking. Also, you'd think that would bring up a CE light but I haven't had a CE since I removed the TBS and cleaned the MAS. However, I've had the bogging or lagging alot.

Double check all of your connections; possibly disconnect the battery, take all the connectiosn apart and reassemble to make sure they are seated properly and not leaking. If no change, also try taking off the tune and running stock with the intake and see what happens.

I've actually tried all that a couple times now and all my connections are leak free etc. I've disconnected the battery several times too hoping that the truck would learn the new CAI or something. Nothing has worked so far. And as for the tuner, I drove the truck for quite a while with only the CAI on (no tuner or exhaust) and I had the same problem. I'm really stumped here.
