2012 Work Truck Upgrade

Recommended Posts

So today I traded my 2007 Chevy 1500 for a 2012 GMC 2500 HD Work Truck. I miss the readout for gas milage and other things in the dash. Can I add that to my new truck?

Fog light kit from GMAccessories is part number 19170447, includes everything you need to plug/play (wiring, fog lights, headlight switch and instructions). DIC is part number 19159438.

List price in Canada from dealer is $450 for fog light kit, and $125 for DIC kit. You should be able to go back to your selling dealer, and get the salesman to get you a deal on the parts, assuming you have a decent salesman.

I did the DIC upgrade, ordered from chevy parts people.com. Does not show me instant mpg but it has a history mpg. I guess if your willing to reset it you could get the instant. Doesn't show the outside temp either though it does open up a lot more info than the single button on the instrument panel.

I don't believe that the 2500s have a readout for instant mileage.

Instant readout on 3/4 tons dissapeared sometime around the body style switch IIRC.

While the DIC might not display it, its still there. I installed an Edge Insight (leftover from my other truck) and it reads a lot of parameters, instant MPG is one it does display.

That fog light kit says it is the 24 watt lamp fog light kit. You are totally wasting your money to install the 24 watt bulb fog lights, you can't even tell when they are on. Unless you plan upfront to up the lamps to 45 watt halogens or HIDs, don't bother to install them,

I find the stock fogs to be plenty helpful. I'd stay away from the stupid HIDs unless you want to be a prick to everyone else on the road.

Maybe the SIlverado fog light housing makes a difference vs the Sierra.

On the Sierra, I can just barely tell when I turn the fog lights on. Our 2002 Yukon fogs were pretty decent. The Jeep and Challenger fog lights are excellent, but they use 45 watt lamps. And I am talking about using them in fog conditions. I do not run the fog lights in clear conditions.
