First handgun

I went out last week and bought my first handgun, i was on here asking about the 1911's specifically the Kimbers. Well I played with (didn't shoot) the Kimber, I really didn't like the way it sat in my hand. So i started to look at the Beretta's and I found that I liked the 92A1, so thats what i went home with. Next thing im going to buy is a flashlight for it and would like to upgrade the sights. I cannot wait to go shoot it, i will hopefully get out next weekend as this weekend I'll be camping.

That is on my list of guns to buy. Is it the .40 or the 9mm? I personally want the .40 but if the price is right I will buy a 9mm. Nothing against the 9mm I reload so i do not want to have to die up for to many new calibers. It can get pricey with keeping inventory lol.

The price difference between 9mm and 40 for the pistol will be negligible.

To the OP, good luck with sights, the 92 has a fixed front blade so to add something it must be pinned to the existing sight blade. Not something just any shop will do like installing sights on a normal automatic pistol, you'll need a gunsmith. It's a pain but I love my 92 any how.

Nice looking 92. I shot a 92 many years ago, but it didn't feel comfortable to me. If I remember, the grip was too thick for my liking. Hopefully your experience will be better than mine. I'm a Glock/Sig guy.

the dies will be around a hundred dollars then I have to stock up on the projectiles. Then I would possible have to buy a different powder as what works in my 45 and 40 may not work for 9mm, and if I change to powder that works across the board I have work up all my loads again. I could easily tie hundreds of dollars just adding a new caliber to my safe. I have no problems with a 9mm it has got the job done for years.

It's the 9mm.

The front sights on the 92a1 are removable, that's why I went with the 92a1 over the 92fs. Basically the same gun just minor differences.

Beretta makes good stuff. Too bad you live in Jersey and are stuck with 10 round mags with a full size pistol.

Good luck and I hope you like your choice.

I always shot 45 ACP and never cared much for the 9mm Luger but recently I picked up a 38 Super which is a hopped up 9mm round. I'm really liking it so far.

I notice you said "First Handgun". It is good you realize early that one is never enough....

If you like the feel of the beretta, try picking up a CZ sometime. Something in the 75 series will feel fairly similar. I have a 75bd police and a pcr. Both have been fantastic and have a pretty natural point of aim.

I was actually interested in the cz, but when I went to look they didn't have any. So i played with the sig and beretta. I will have to go to another gs when I look for my next one to check out the cz.

I have the same one... the action is glassy smooth. It is probably my favorite target practice pistol.
