New 2500 or 3500? Same $ and MPG.

Now with that, it makes sense to get a 3500. It appears I'd pay the same amount, get the same mileage, and get a lot more truck!

So, how wrong am I?

Other than a payload difference what's "a lot more truck"? I don't get it.

As far as I could ever tell, the only difference between the trucks is the addition of an overload leaf in the rear springs, which accounts for all of the payload difference. No other differences in axles or elsewhere from what I could figure.

With Dmax, the only difference is springs. With 3500hd gasser, the springs, brakes, drive shaft and axle are all heavier than the 2500hd gasser. Steve

I wouldn't bother gettin the 1 ton if your going diesel because like they've said only difference is springs. 1 tons ride like shit if you don't have weight in the back, if it was me and I was settled on a dmax. I would just get the 3/4 and put a set of airbags in it and viola you have yourself a 4500 if you need it to be but still ride half decent empty...

I belive a gvwr over 10,000lbs, like a 3500hd has the 6.0l down to 320hp. The torque stays the same. A 2500hd keeps the power at 360hp.

I can say that my 2012 3500hd 6.0 has noticeably more power than my 08 2500hd 6.0. Same axle. Mostly notice towing. I'm not sure what is different, must just be the way the 12 is tuned.

I'm happy with it.

I believe the 2011-up 6.0 has a different cam, only 7 more HP and torque, but how it is delivered to the ground is more than noticeable, it's like a whole different beast. Probably has something to do with the stiffer frame as well, but I recently had the chance to drive a 2005 HD with a 6.0 and it was a dog compared to my own, not near as crisp and they don't even sound the same. I don't see how, even with a tune the older ones could ever make up for such a huge difference in power or effeciency.

To the OP, I believe paoutlaw just purchased a 3500 and went through the same thoughts you, maybe he could chime in to answer some of your questions.

If you're interested in an extended cab with a short box it's only available in the 3/4 ton.

A crew cab with short box is available in one ton though.
