Mirror swap

I've got the mirrors with the chrome caps from the facory and I've been looking to swap them for the factory black ones. A guy I work has a 2005 with the regular mirrors (electric) and we went to swap and turns out my quick disconnect for the electric is under the plastic triangular trim piece and his, if it even had one was nowhere to be seen... does this mean ill have to find a 99-02 to swap my 2000s mirrors with?

if you need help on how to do the mirrow swap, let me know

Ty I've already got a few questions. Since my truck is power but non heated from the factory is the heated part of the tows plug and go? Also how many washers to "level" them? 4?

I like them the way they are. And I am not sure the plugs are the same. they changed a lot between 02 and 03. They ones you are looking at are from 06

im not sure if they are wired for heated mirrors, im not even sure the 99-02 style trucks had heated mirrors as an option. and even if you did get the heated ones, you would still need a switch to turn them off and on. as for the washers, you can level them with washers, but all GMT800's with tow mirrors have angled mirrors, its just the way they are. you can level them with washers but then the mirror might not be snug against the truck and it could make horrible wind noise or it could leak water into the door.

why do you want to level them anyway?

oh and just so you know, mirrors from 99-02 trucks have different plugs from the 03+. as chawk said, so make sure you order the right ones

I'm not sure the heat or signal will work. Or if the power will work. Did you check the plug style

Just seen a few pics of em that way and it looked simple enough to do :dunno: guess I'm gonna have to do some thinking about the heated part... I bet I can wire something up

yeah im not sure about the washers though, i know that one of my mirrors has 2 or 3 washers on it, they were not level so i had to add them.

but you would have to play around with the washers and see if it works.

if the heated mirrors are way more expensive, i would just forget it, i have never needed heated mirrors anyway

Yeah I'm gonna at least play with. Maybe I can make a gasket of sorts for it to prevent wind noises and leaking? I can get pretty creative

haha well after 300k miles, that door handle has had its fair share of being pulled on.

yeah maybe some caulk or you could make a rubber gasket

Better fix the door handle first

Haha I'm shopping for one right now. You know ice is like an alien invasion for us here in south arkansas
