My 96 chevy pickup has a oil leak far as I can tell its just from the oil pan maybe? It isn't a noticable amount leaking a drop or two here and there but the oil is getting all over things and I would just like to clean it up and stop it.

Clean and degrease it good. Then start and let run a while and check for leaks. If you have trouble finding it, they make some uv dye you can add to oil and then look over engine with black light and find the source.

I don't have the info available to me, but a Chilton's maual would be a big help. Also you can ask in the Ask the GM Technician area, there is some good people there.

what would be the best way to clean up the oil that is on it? all the hoses are put away and so is the pressure washer because there is like a foot of snow on the ground. i guess i could go to the automatic car wash and use the undercarriage sprayer?

Doubt that will get it all. Best way is to get dirty and crawl around with a good deagreaser and hot water. You could try the car wash, won't hurt.

I have not gotten to cleaning it yet mostly because I'm not looking forward to it much although I did look closer at it and it seems to me that its coming from the front part of the motor by the belt and running back onto the oil pan

no guessing ,it still has to be cleaned at least with brake cleaner and air as it could be a frt crank seal or oil pan ,,,cuz they never leak in that year .........lmao !!!

dont jump to ANY conclusion ,,do it right ,,,please let us know ,,be patient

Today I laid in the snow and cleaned it up. I let it run and sit but I didn't see anything new however I did notice the stuff that was up towards the front of the motor wasn't really wet oil just black nasty gunk. And almost all the way around the oil pan there was actual black liquid oil and there was more of the gunk between the oil pan and transmission I'm not real sure if the stuff is oil or just dirt and junk. I think I'll try the uv dye though
