The "big four" survival guns are:

AR-15, Glock 19, Remington 870 and Ruger 10/22

Found this on a survival type forum and I really can't argue with it at all.

Glad to say I have got it covered....except I prefer my Glocks in .40 caliber.

All my local stores are sold out of the "big four" except for the 870.

Well I have the AR, a Glock 32 (357 Sig) but also barrels/mags for .40 and 9mm, a Mossberg 500 and the Ruger... Among others. After reading Senator Frankenstein's plans for the AWB I'm actually less worried- it's so overreaching moderate democrats in the senate won't touch it and with the house under republican majority nothing will get through there either. But you're right about places being picked clean- I visited a shop in the Cleveland area I've been buying online from for years last week and they had three long guns- two rather high end shot guns and a NFA controlled HK rifle and probably a third of their normal handgun inventory according to the clerks. I could use more .45 ammo though, I have very little left but I should be able to fix that soon.

I'll agree to that list. I'd say that the AR can be substituted by any reliable semi auto such as an AK or FAL. I would also say the ability to shoot both .40 and 9mm would be nice. Either have 2 handguns or multiple barrels. Regardless of anyone's preference of handgun round, 9mm is the most common cartridge. Also, the Glock 22 in .40 is the most common handgun issued to PDs.

Exactly why my Glock can do all three- the 9mm is a Storm Lake conversion and the .40 is just a G23 barrel. It just has the new matte finish so it doesn't match though.

Everyone likes different stuff I would replace that glock with a M1911 .45ACP

I own a ruger and 4 banana clips its the weather proof model. Got the 870 I have thought of buying a tac flashlight and a adjustable high quality stock for it. I don't own a ar15 it just isn't something I care for I got like 5 guns and I like to hunt.

I would like a semi auto rifle large caliber eventually. With a large scope for those long distance hero shots when I show off my marksmen skills hunting.

I would buy a handgun but its such a hassle in BC. I'm jealous of my conceal carry neighbours to the south.

I almost have enough pistols to carry a different one every day of the week.

This guy knows what's up. No plastic Glocks. Give me a 1911, a decent AR with a HOLO sight, an 870/887 12 ga. And I don't know how about a Barrett M82A1 .50

I've never been a fan of 1911s. The are obviously good guns, just not my taste. My reasons are: manual safety, grip safety, half the mag capacity of something better, heavy, overrated .45, finicky due to high tolerance (unless you spend a lot of dough), and an external hammer to catch on things. I'll take my plastic glock 9mm any day of the week. They just work.

If you are surviving, I would ditch a holographic sight for an Aimpoint that has a MUCH longer battery life. Plus they are lighter and tougher.

I'm going to go full rail on my AR and get flip up irons. But my eyesight in low light sucks so the Holographic sight helps a little

Irons are usually a no brainer :P Check out Aimpoints before you bite the bullet on an Eotech. Personally, I think the Eotechs appear fuzzy. I'd much prefer to shoot a nice red dot. But that's just me.

I agree.

Plus that 33 round magazine will keep the - insert target - at bay.
