HVAC Blend door issue? Not the actuator..

Hey guys, 2003 2500hd 6.0 ext cab, manual dual control heat/AC.

Switching from floor to defrost I get nothing different. I do have air coming from pretty much everywhere and no where in particular. I do have the ability to change either the passenger or driver side from hot to cold without incident but not the direction I need it to blow.

What I do have:

The actuator does move and rotate the black disc it is attached to under the center (driver side) of the dash. It does not move the white 1/2 cogged one though. The white one does seem out of the black ones reach a bit and also appears to be stuck like it may be in line with another actuator up stream that I can not see (yet). All the threads and googling seem to point at the actuator only. Mine is working which leads me to the actual blend door being snapped or out of alignment. Can someone shed some light on this for me?

Thanks!

clear as mud ,take it in ,there should be a code ,,,,,no ,shitty code readers may not read HVAC

dont assume anything since you didnt know to scan it

good luck ,let us know

Taking it in to the dealer to have the code read would tell me that the actuator is working. I can see it moving what appears to be full swing.

"dont assume anything since you didnt know to scan it" rude comment and scaning does not seem to help much but to give general ideas what is wrong in my opinion.

Regular scanners will not read BCM and ABS codes. It needs to be taken to a dealer or reputable shop to pull the body code and tell you what is wrong. If you own a Tech II that may read the code

Ok, lets say I dont want to take it to the dealer or a shop and pay someone but would like to fix it on my own (thought it was the idea of the forums to begin with) ..... The actuator does appear to be rotating a disc (for lack of better term) that is approx 4- 6 inches with partial gears on one side. There is another crescent moon shaped part (w/cogs also) that appears to be just out of the reach of the black one. Is it possible that the actuato over ran its limits or somehow lost its start stop spot? This is not the temp actuator but is the mode actuator.

You can maybe try resetting them . On my 800 I just unhook the battery and wait for like a min and then hook it back up . Turn the key to the postion just before the starter and listen you should hear the things move and recalibrate it might help you .

Thanks, I did try a couple of different recalibration methods and none seemed to work. I had to do it a year of so back after some battery drain issues that I had. The one that has the fuses pulled and opening and closing the drivers door after cycling the ignition seemed to be the secret fix at that time. There is tons of info on the reclibrating of the actuators or replacing them but not much out there for what I see mine doing. May just have to take it apart and get inside the actuator to see if it over ran the internal stops. Was hoping someone could save me from that one...

When mine went south, I had 2 bad actuators and a bad control head

Alldata is the way to go. I tried to post some info earlier today, but this site's software won't allow it to be posted

Well after some frustration and last ditch efforts prior to taking the actuator out and apart, I did one last relearn and took the timing to what I would consider extremes (but obviously worked).. Set the controller to the middle (12noon) and pulled the plug on the actuator. Waited 30 minutes (ate). Came back out, plugged it in. Pulled the HVAC fuses (firewall and dash) waited 30-45 minutes. Put them back in. Cycled the ignition key (not start) and left for 10 minutes (doors closed). Started truck, shut truck off. Pulled keys. Opened/closed door and left til morning.. Worked liked nothing ever happened.. Loves these lil bastads...

At least you got it fixed. I was thinking maybe the "cam" was broke or the arms for the doors. Those mode actuators are a serious pain to replace and get all the arms in the right spot sometimes.
