im pretty new to 2 stroke and carberated engines and snowmobiles for that matter but i sure like to ride them. anyway i was wondering if any one could give me some info. I got a free 1994 polaris xlt the engine starts great and runs great however it bogs down alot when i give it gas. but when it bogs down if i turn the choke on while it is bogging then give it gas it goes fine does this mean its rich or lean? i took the carbs off and sprayed some cleaner in them and put some cleaner in the gas as well this helped a ton but sometimes still in the high end it just pretty much stops and bogs down almost throwing me off any ideas? thanks

If you have to use the choke, then it is running lean

hmmm ok im thinking that the floats in the carbs are stuck because sometimes it is fine and sometimes it bogs down and it seems like if i jiggle the sled around a little it fixes it a little

Take the carbs off again and go over them with a fine toothed comb! Simply spraying carb cleaner over it will not do anything. I had a carb off on an old dirt bike twice for cleaning before it ran right. The second time off there was a small orifice I didn't notice the first time that was plugged full. Cleaned it out and ran like a brand new bike!

Other things to check would be fuel filter and he's if the floats aren't set right it clearly won't let fuel through. Old 2strokes are EASY to work on, even enjoyable at times. 6 pack a beer in a heated garage with your fav tunes on the radio.. Nothing like it!

So I cleaned up the carbs a little better and then ran some sea foam in it and it ran great! For a while, I left it running and went to feed the horse maybe 100 yards up the road and when I came back the sled wasn't running and it has white milky stuff on the plugs and in the cylinders :( could this be from a bad head gasket or warped head? I'm pretty sure it wasn't the seafoam but I don't know for sure. Anything else it could be? It has spark and seems to have compression ( tested with my finger so not exactly accurate)

Also there seems to be a lot of wetness oil/gas running down the front just below the exhaust manifold it was there befor all this it just didn't click in my head for some reason that its probably bad

Is it liquid cooled? Sorry I don't know much about them. If it is check your oil. If its milky then you have coolant getting to it somehow. First thing I would suspect at that point would be the head gasket

It is liquid cooled and oil injected so you don't mix the gas just put it in a container under the hood and it mixes itself

And me either I'm really new to them

Well it may work, just may have to play with the engine to keep it going. I don't know anything about sleds, just a little about outboards.

It works for 2strokes. But it can foul spark

Plugs. Clean the plugs and try again.

FYI when I seafoamed a 1974 2stroke v4 boat engine it was blowing crud out the exhaust like you wouldn't believe.

Check that you aren't losing coolant as well.

This is what I found if I clean the plugs and put fuel in the cylinders it will start right up and die after a sec so I kept doing this and most of the white gunk seems to be clearing up even gone sometimes but it still won't start and run on its own. So I took the fuel line off and it smells/looks like gas but not much was coming out of the line. So I looked closer and just behind the gas shutoff valve there is a white thing a couple inches long I'm thinking its a fuel filter maybe its plugged up any ideas?
