Hey.  I've got a dilemma--I can't decide if I want to go ahead and sell my F150 to get a 2003 Silverado Reg. Cab. Z71 or if I want to wait until this fall and get a 2004 Colorado Ext. Cab Z71....what do ya'll think?  2003 owners--what do you think of your trucks??

 Thanks in advance!-Will

I have a 3 1/2 week old 2003 Z71 Silverado and absolutely love it, other than the floppy mirrors.  Quiet, no rattles over bumps when empty, and it is the first truck I have ever had in which I keep looking for an excuse to drive.  Mine is an extended cab.  I like the Silverado because of the cab room that a full-sized truck offers, especially in width.

The Colorado could prove to be interesting.  I would think that if it was equipped right, it could be very close to a sports car.  I think your decision should be based on what you are after in a truck.

I think after you decide which chassis you want, then you need to decide what accessories you would like to have.  I didn't do enough of the latter and gave up that which the geek in me wishes I had---a full-blown Driver Information Center.  I keep kicking myself for not going with that.

the 03 reg cab silverados look ugly IMO (i am starting to like the ext cabs 4wd and the HDs) and the colorado will be underpowered (also i dont think the colorados 4wd pkg is called the Z71)

I honestly would probably go with the colorado cause it looks muh better but thats my opinion  :)

anything you do though DUMP THE FORD  :D

Actually, the Colorado is going to have a Z71 suspension package.

Would tend to say steer for the Rado.  I know I had a 92 Jimmy, and for me(6'5 235) it was just too tiny up front.  I like having more room, the ride is better(I know it's a different vehicle all together), more power, etc.  As mentioned before, it will depend on your usage, your size, any modifications, etc.

If youre just going to use it as a commuter, I would get the Colorado (if it has enough interior room). If you are planning on towing and hauling alot you better get a Silverado! :)

The Silverado will be much easier to personalize or "mod".  It will probably be a year or so after the release of the Colorado before the aftermarket companies will have very much to offer for it.

All the Colorado looks pretty darn good (IMO) in the stock form, it'll look just like everyone elses Colorado for awhile...  :)

There's a huge thread currently in the Chevy 4x4 newsgroup on usenet, and two more on the Ultranet concerning Ford trucks, marketing, and resale which you need to take a look at. Don't forget the Ford Truck channel on Mirc a lot of good info there.

Have a great one!

I own a 2003 2500HD 4x4 Silverado. Love it. But then I tow a travel trailer over the mountians with it. What do you intend to do with your new truck? I know you aren't pulling much with that F 150. I would think you should sell your F 150 privately to get the most out of the truck and get on board with a GM truck that suits you while the interest rates and rebates are good.

Good Luck.

Know the feeling, I think I've been banned from 4-5 dealers as I'm always looking and never buying.

They won't give me much on my trade in and I haven't gotten my money worth out of it yet.  Keep wanting to, esp now with the GM creditcard 2003 rebate letter I got in the mail.

Echo the sentiments of lrymal above.  I have ~ 6K miles on it, and aside from the same floppy mirrors, I agree 100%.  This '03 seems flawless otherwise.

timk49 had a valid point - how are you gonna use it?  The 2 trucks are quite different.  If you're worried about mileage, get the Colo w/ a 5-speed (maybe 6-speed - I haven't read the specs yet).  If you're doing towing/hauling, get the V8 in a Rado.

Get rid of the F**d, however.!  :wtf:

BTW - lrymal, dealer replaced the mirrors (they were on national back order, though) w/o question - this was the entire housing loose on the pivots, not just the glass.

Like others have said, your choice depends on your use.  I had a Ranger (great truck) but moved up to a full size Ram (another great truck) as I needed more power.  The Colorado looks nice and will get better mileage, but the Silverado will be able to do more.  Currently, I have an '02 Silverado that I like very much and does all that I need it to do.

(Hope I don't get flamed for this next part!)

However, the new F150 looks very nice, and the new 5.4 motor has more HP and torque than the current Chevy 5.3.  But, if you go that route, wait a few years as Ford is in the process of redesigning their auto tranny's (a known weak spot in Ford products from what I've read).

Hey sorry for the belated reply.  I appreciate all of ya'lls replies.  My deal is that either one would be ideal for me.  I do tow and will tow but if the load is too big I can use dad's Z71.  I honestly don't think fuel econ. will be much different between the two because I have to have four wheel drive (Z71) but with that new 5cyl who knows.  They are both awesome looking trucks and either will be worth my money.  The Silverado would definately be more intimidating, but the Colorado would be fairly unique for the time being and regardless of which I get, I can assure you it would become very distinctive!

Oh, and yeah I plan to dump the Ford!  I mean I like it because its my first, but given the chance to do it again I wouldn't have bought it.  I bought it because trying to find a decent 4x4 pickup in South Arkansas is madness.  There is no selection and when you do find one its been ragged or has a billion miles on it or is way overpriced.  This one was low miles, decent cond., and I got it for about half of its value.  And as for the possibility of me owning a Ford in the future--FORGET IT!

Yep, I think others here would agree that it's easy to play the "I wouldn't do it like this again" game when it comes to vehicle purchases.  Whether it be buying a particular vehicle or not/getting options, etc.
