Good after market distributor

You are right it is just one bolt holding it down, however with this truck you get one tooth off on reassembly or a degree or 2 off in timing you WILL have problems. It's not as easy as it sounds your first couple times

Well I'm up for learning. But like I said I have went through 3 caps in 19,000 miles so something isn't right and the dist. Shaft and coil are the only things that aren't new. Plus the screw hole is broke on the distributor. And even with it held down the way it is it feels like the distributor moves a little not just the cap.

Sounds like it is a good time to replace it if only for the broken screw hole. I wouldn't waste the money on a high performance distributer for that truck unless you plan on doing some big mods later. The stock one will be just fine. I'd probably replace the coil and coil wire while I was there a "good" coil isn't a bad idea I would go with a Delco coil myself but and MSD or something would work too just don't use the no name wax and oil store parts

I ordered the part I could get a rebuilt one now without a module for $160 or I could get a brand new one in the morning with a module for $170 so I figured I might as well just wait till in the morning considering a new module alone was $90

I got the distributor and replaced the old one the truck run fine it even sounds a little healthier I think but for some reason it starts kinda hard I'm hoping its just because its not timed yet and I get the p1345 code I think it is but it runs good so did I mess up or not? Haha

Yup you messed up hahah if them things are a degree off they will set that code, it is not always easy getting it perfect again either. I used to have problems with a few in the dealer and I would have to just bump the distributer a degree at a time, clear the code and then see if it passed if not another degree and repeat

What if I just found tdc and pointed the distributor it at the number 1 plug? I'm not quite sure what you mean by bumping it a degree?

Ok so I took it tomy cousins shop and we used to computer to get it to 0 degrees it worked great I was a little off like 15 degrees but not to bad it ran and got me to town. The truck seems to pull Alot better and idle, the motor seems wuieter too.

Only 15 Degrees? haha thats quite a ways. Glad you got her fixed up tho
