TedH Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 In the last 20K miles, I have noticed that my gas pedal sensitivity has increased. The truck has 104K miles. I suspect the 'accelerator pedal position sensor': http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1412075,parttype,5061 The symptom: When I cross an intersection where the crown of the road runs counter to my crossing street, I find the accelerator speed 'bounces' with any movement at all of my right foot. I remember when the truck was newer that I often wondered why the truck seemed a little 'slow' or 'behind' in rpm compared to where my gas pedal was. I thought it was just a higher stall converter than I was used to. Now, I think it is that the accelerator sensor has a bit of buffer in it to make the gas pedal 'soft' to compensate for a very bumpy road. Is the sensor in my truck failing? Is it the accelerator spring on the pedal assembly? I'm tiring of the amount of sensitivity in the gas pedal. 2003 Silverado 1500 Extend cab 4.8L, Z71 4WD non-adjustable pedal assembly
TedH Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 Have you cleaned your throttle body? Will that solve the problem? I don't think the throttle body has ever been cleaned. I am considering having the truck serviced after I change the plugs and wires today.
RyanbabZ71 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Yes in my old 2000 the throttle would become "sticky". Cleaning the TB would fix this. It's simple but some TB cleaner, pop off the intake tube and clean the TB Ryan
zach1990 Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 The tb is def the place to start. I have to do it regulary in this old truck of mine Sent from my SGH-I927 using Tapatalk 2
desrtrat Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 when the 03 DBW came out, a lot of people were complaining about the sensitivity of the pedal. you can try and replace the spring with a little stiffer one, and see how that works..a lot of people did that, most were happy with the fix. it is the cheapest of all the fixes.. good luck
