I called the dealership I normally go to and he seemed familiar with the rust on the weather stripping. I think it may be from metal banding in the stripping, like someone mentioned in this thread. Its going in tomorrow for all the issues to be addressed.

I'm with you, VM! No way should you be having these issues! As someone here just researching, I'll say it again - GM is making it might hard for me to buy one of their trucks!

I am with Gene. I haven't had any major problems, but I don't feel that I am getting my money's worth. Just feels cheap to me compared to others. This is my second GMT900 - i dumped the first one because of the oil sucking 5.3. I love the 6.2 in this one, but it rattles and leaks too much for me. the leaks have been fixed, but the sqeeks and rattles drive me crazy. LOL!

I appreciate the guys that are not just telling me to shrug it off. It really seems unacceptable to me. I'd expect these kinds of things from a Kia or Hyundai, not a GM. The cheap leather kills me too. I suppose it will catch up to them eventually, if they keep selling vehicles with sub par quality.

Yeah my motor is already making noises. I haven't noticed any leaks... Yet. But almost expect them with the way it has been going thus far.. 4000 km on it lol. It's gone before I hit 60,000 bumper to bumper. I won't be biting on the NNBS of 2014. I'm done. I get the S**t end of the stick while they put all their money into development of the 2014's.

My 2010 Sierra has the rust as well, it is form the weather strip not the door frame from what I saw on mine.

GM is no different than any other manufacturer out there today....they are all getting cheap parts made in China. Even some of the OEM parts for the earlier model trucks that were once made in the US/Mexico/Canada are being made in China. Learn to live with it because it's not going to change anytime in the near future. Is is sad that it's come to this? You bet your ass it is.....

Like I said, this is my first new truck.. So I'm raising every little issue I find. The frame on my '07 wasn't even rusty at 200,000 km, yet this new one is flaking, and rusting already. Every inch of this truck screams lesser quality.. Except the beastly motor.

@ Bossier-

I think that may the exact attitude that lets this sort of thing happen. If everyone becomes complacent like that, we will be simply fed overpriced junk. I expect it at WalMart, not a car dealership. I know there is quality out there. I know 3 people with Dodge trucks, that didn't have these sorts of problems. Get real leather when they pay for it... I buy Gm because I like the trucks the best. But if this is going to continue to be the norm, I'll move on. There are still companies that care about the products they sell, believe it or not.

The motor doesn't leak and rattle - the cab of the truck does. The motor is the best part of the truck!

Mine ticks. Annoys the hell out of me. The cab of the truck?!?! My '07 sunroof leaked constantly, but they changed the design. Still avoided a sunroof on this one. What is leaking on your cab???

Man its to bad threads like these exist and bash GM. I agree if I paid 60K i would be upset, my 2007 GMC has 190,000kms on it of rough gravel washboard roads, salt, and contruction abuse.

I have no rust other than things that are my fault such as paint chips, my interior is sqeaky clean and i pull part the door seals when i vacum the truck to make sure no salt gets inbetween the door seals. The interior doesnt rattle sure some parts are cheap plastic but IMO the plastic is fastened securey and would not have rattled if i didnt have the volume maxed out every where i go.

Like said above every vehicle has issues get them fixed and taken care of but dont bash the brand for a new small issues that the dealership is fixing for you.

I have heard a lot of issues with GM being cheap lately though. Honestly Ford doesn't seem to much better, but I think Ram has their stuff together. When I look over my co-workers BLACK ram I don't see any wavy sheet metal or gaping interior gaps. My last two brand new trucks were something to be desired in one area or the other. In this one it is the fit and finish of the interior/exterior with plenty of interior rattles at 15,000 miles. The other truck happened to be garbage in the engine and transmission department. I have yet to own a brand new GM truck that has been decent all around, and even though my current one is the best out of either one it will still be the last new one I buy.

Yes there are. But the more they care about them, the higher the price tag goes. Go to an auto show and just sit in vehicles in the upper price ranges and you can see and feel the better quality. My pockets aren't that deep. :nonod:

UGH..... My 2012 Sierra has a nasty sqeek when it gets really cold out here (half the damn year!). 20" chrome rins are already corroding around the outside and on the chromed plastic. Inside the wheel wells are losing paint like no other. The wheels Im not too worried about this year becuase they will be covered under warrenty but in the future I can see them being a big problem until I just invest in some aftermarket ones. For 57k a person should not have to worry about this but when all these vehicle companies are having to pay 40-70$ per hour to their workers for wages and union pensions someone has to take the hit and that will be us buyers.

    • Although there is a "recommended" weight by those who sell trailers, my experience has been that they are way too aggressive in their information, for me at least. My '22 with 6.6 Gas, has a payload of about 3400 lbs and depending on your specs (I don't have 4WD so it has a bit higher Payload than others) yours will likely be different. Payload is one of the most important numbers for towing. Although you "could" tow the max trailer weight for your truck, I, personally, would not go close to that number. Having said that, a lot depends on how/where you will be towing. I live in the LMD of BC and often tow to Denver, Co, along interstates (flat and mountains) and I find I need to keep it in 5th (6spd) for the trip and travel at around 65mph. This is for a trailer dry weight of just under 3500lbs. If you are only doing local, short trips, it would not be that big an issue if you had a heavier unit. You will be surprised how much stuff you load the trailer with, so I would only recognize the trailers "full" GVWR weight rating, then decide on the appropriate trailer from that number. If you are worrying about how much stuff you should be putting in a trailer, you might have too large a rig from the get-go. Once again, depending on what terrain/distance in which you will be pulling. Marv
    • davester, Thanks for the response, how ever, I think I am now a bit more confused than I was before I posted - - After I posted, I actually found a YT video of a guy who replaced his Module (above tire) and he only disconnected the ground cable of the battery, but you describe rubbing the two cables together after disconnecting. I presume that is to do as you describe and eliminate any residual energy? - When I picked up the Module (between my posting and reading your response) from the dealer, I specifically asked about any re-programming and he stated it was not necessary as it was simply plug and play. Don't know how knowledgeable he is, though. - The video I watched also showed the Module plug to be difficult to "unlock" and remove, but there was no mention of silicone, although the video did show a bunch of dust/dirt in and around the plug (old truck) during removal. Are you talking about silicone that was applied by the factory, or silicone that you applied prior to plugging in? Thanks again, Marv
