The 8-speed Ram limits gears to 3.55 as a max I think. Ford lets you get 3.73 and even 4.10 in some configurations though. That would be nice, Not all of us are worried about fuel use.

I'm really hoping GM will stick with the shifter on the column.

Please leave at least a little "truck feeling".

And I don't want to take my eyes of the road looking for a knob just to shift gears.

Why would you be looking for it while driving? From the pic it looks like options are P,R,N, and D.

I actually don't have any issues with it, I'm all for saving space. The biggest annoyance to me about the column shifter in my 800 is it blocks everything directly behind it (radio and hvac controls).

i know that they didnt have to do that. BMW has a 7 speed in the M5 and they have a shifter. at least give the driver something electronic to play with the gears.

The seven speed is not the same trans. And BMWs haven't had real shifters in like a decade. They're similar to the weird garbage Chrysler uses on the cars with the 8-speed.

well the 6speed isnt a real shifter either. its all done electronicly. i think they should at least give you something to grab on to and play with the gears. even if it is done electronicly

The explanation came straight from a Car and Driver article. I never looked because even if the Ram were otherwise excellent, that knob and the shifters they use in the 8 speed cars is enough to keep me from considering it. They suck.

I wonder if in the future, Ram will replace the Jaguar style Twist Knob with a Push Button setup that harkens back the old TorqueFlite Push button Automatics of the 1950s (if I remember Correctly, they've REVIVED the TorqueFlite Name for the Ram's 8 Speed Transmission!)

Yeah they're calling it the TF, even though it isn't their trans.

I'd rather see them figure out a way to make a conventional column shifter work. I like how GM does it with the normal D selection then also having the range limit with the M mode.

Yeah, I heard the knob really gets in the way of payload and towing. Its harder to attach the hitch with that knob in the way. And what if the knob gets caught on a rock on a trail?

:P

I kid, I kid.
