870 here, great gun by a pretty good company.
Our whole state DOC uses them.

870 is my choice. I would buy a used one as well. About $250 or less. Are you goose hunting with the 3 1/2"? Ouch!

I won a Benelli Nova 12 gauge at a raffle at a conference I was at a few years ago. Nice. I also have an 870 Special Field.

887's are ok but no reason to get one when you can get a new 870 dirt cheap... just get an 870 or moss 500

 

I don't think the 500 will take 3.5" shells?

Seems like mossburg makes a shotgun that takes 3.5" shells but I think it's like a 535. And no probably not hunting with the 3.5 I just want to be able to.

I bought a mossburg 835 ulti mag used for $230. It's in almost brand new condition. I'm hoping to go out and shoot it tomorrow

It seems from your initial post that you are leaning towards a pump. If I could talk you into investing in a semi auto I would highly recommend looking at Beretta and Browning. Yes they are way more comparative but with the Maxus and a400 you will only be tying up additional money not wasting it as they hold their value incredibly well. If you are dead set on a pun you really should be looking at the Benelli. I shoot a ton of shotgun and I get to try them all. The Benelli Super Nova is by far one of the best value gun on the market and should be on the top of your list IMHO.
