Engine change in 05 Silverado

Well I'm starting to look into end-of-lifing my engine since it has 220K on it. I'm interested in possibly building a 383 or 396 out of it. I've been reading some information on it, and I am seeing that you can drop in a stock 6.0L in there as well and I believe the only part that needs changed is the flex plate (not 100% certain). So I guess my questions are:

1 - can you make a 383 out of a 6.0L as well? Which is cheaper?

2 - can I use stock GM heads for the engine build?

3 - Does anyone have a specific "HOW TO" to do this? I have built plenty of engines in my life, I'd like to build and drop in this one.

Thanks in advance!

383 comes from stroking a 5.3. My 6.0 swap was $3000. I had a shop do it. If you stroke a 6.0 you will get 402, 408 depending on how much you bore as well

You can stroke a 5.3 to 383 as well. A guy on Silveradoss.com did it

Cool, so many opshins! Mine will just get a plain 6.0 once the 5.3 dies.

Or so you think. You'll start there, feel the power, and tune. Then feel that, and intake. Then exhaust. Then BlackBear, etc. etc...once you taste it there's no turning back. I started with a 2002 HD 6.0, then intake then exhaust then tune then 2007 VMax then intake exhaust tune...just ask Chris. I'm pushing 540(that's my story and I'm sticking to it) and when my warranty is up so is the horsepower. Enough is never enough.

sweetness, so if I got with the 6.0L, what crank am I going to need? I ran into a small snag. One of the local junkyards will not sell me a 6.0L unless I know the engine code. So I guess I'm looking for specifics, caveats on building it up. What heads should I use? Crank? Rods / Pistons?

If this was a Quad 4, I could build the **** out of it, but this is new territory for me.

the early 6L had a different crank length than the newer ones. also had different ID cam bearings. depending on $$$ you can get a fresh 6L or 377, 402, 408 long blocks from most performance CO.
