Home Surveillance Cameras?

Home Surveillance Cameras? Anyone have any experience with them? Have a problem neighbor & looking at installing a 8 camera system to cover the property when gone on the road.

Best Buy guys did not know much, the guy at Menards of all places seemed to know his stuff. More

so concerned with resolution needs & how long they last...or if anyone knows a specific brand that is worth the money. This is a expense that I had not planned at all until the last two days, but need to get something done none the less.

Know this is way off topic, but appreciate any input.

I have Frontpoint Security and use their cameras. Check them out. They have a website. It uses cellular connection instead of landline that can be cut.

How much is your budjet.

A "good" dvr system starts at $1000.

Cheaper models like Swann, can be $250. +

Best Buy, Costco, Fry's Electronics, Walmart, sells 8 camera systems.

Friends home, has a Swann system, video is fine, audio can not be heard, untill playback.

I have a single camera to a Toshiba dvd recorder, and a 19" insigna tv for 24hr viewing.

It is a Cop-usa cm35air-h,

I wanted live audio, for night survailance.

It's illegal to record audio, in California, but they won't know.

I can record on a disc for 8hrs 23 min.

I would talk to a local cctv installer, for options of brand preference.

Mine is pretty simple and didn't cost very much. I can check it out on my phone or tablet or work PC. I have it set to start recording if movement is detected while the alarm is set. Somehow birds don't activate it but a person or vehicle will, not sure about pets. I have 2, one exterior and one interior pan and tilt.

Was kind of hoping to stay under $1,000, which is why I never had looked into these things assuming the "good" stuff would be

$2500 plus.

But checking into something like this... http://www.kguardsecurity.com/us/p/ns821-4hw227d/

Comes with 4 outdoor wired cameras & the resolution is acceptable. Then add maybe 4 wireless as my garage is detached from the house. Would love to be able to add a mic or buy a specific camera for the front that adds that too.

Also going to have to buy a separate monitor to dedicate to it. Which will end up in total around $900-$1200. Still have more research to do though.

Appreciate any & all info. Lots to learn about resolution of cameras to frame rates DVR's record at to weather the cameras can handle.

Looked up Sams club & found a Piczel brand which is Security Labs elsewhere, Sams wanted a house brand. That said, their customer service is awesome. But still looking & one of their systems records audio as well. They were emphatic in reminding that it can get the owner in as much trouble pending local & state laws.

Will post the story over the weekend if I am at home as to how it got to this point...
