SD card reader

Interesting call to Infotainment Service Center today.... The guy I spoke to today told me that the SD Card slot is mainly for Navigation and system updates. He did confirm it can be used to play music but will not work for picture viewing or movies UNLESS you have the Picture Viewer icon on your home screen. He did tell me that they are working on an update to add a few features and this might be one if them. I would like to use it to view pictures from my game cameras at the deer lease! Also found out that the slot under the radio is actually a CD player and NOT a DVD player like the rep that sold me the truck said it was!!

That's what I was told too- not happy. I would think it wouldn't be a big deal to add a dvd player in the glove compartment though and have it display on the screen, whether or not you want it to work while driving is up to you and the installer, personally I would like the feature for occupants, I obviously wouldn't use it while driving.

my thought exactly... would be nice to drive up to my camera's, pull the chip and view it in the truck!

They (GM) state they are working on this for picture viewing. My mother in laws 3 month old Equinox (2013) with MyLink (no navigation) has picture viewer and my SD Card from my Cuddeback works great!

I run a 8gb card with no issues.. one thing I would like to figure out.. it's a tough one.. I hope you computer geeks can help..

About half of my music on the SD card is music I ripped from the original CD's. I have everything sorted under the correct folders, etc. Now.. my wife's Audi will let me browse through the folders and pick the song I want...super easy.

However.. the GMC doesn't sort folders.. only let's be search by Artist name / song. All the ripped music does NOT include the artist name in the file properties. So my question is..

1. Can this truck sort by folders anyway...

2. If not, how to I manually add the artist name to the .mpg properties. I tried to right click/ edit... I see artist name is blank.. but it won't allow me to edit.

Please help.. I could use my bluetooth / android phone ...but I personally hate using my phone for music... I want it only as a phone. I like all my music on it's own separate SD card.

GMC-AT: All the info for a given song is stored in the ID-tag. You have to edit the ID-tag to change stuff like Artist, Album Title, etc. You can do this on windows 7 by right clicking the song file and selecting edit ID-tag. You can also add album artwork to the ID-tag and the silverado displays it just fine. Now I'm trying to get the truck to see my playlists on the SD card.....I've been using "media monkey" it's free and it helps with changing a whole group of ID-tags at once.

yes, I got it figured out a while back. I also have all my playlists that were created in MS Media Player that show up in the truck..

I have 2014 silverado . No pics show up or album art . Pretty disappointing that big screen can't display a simple photo . I thought for sure with a dang sd card reader that it would be plausible .

Basically we have a million ways to listen to music though ..

If album art image is 500x500 or less it'll show. Also, make sure there's only a single image embedded in mp3. If there's two or more, none will show.

I worked on this for the better part of a weekend, and it also seemed like if you have .m4a files (downloaded from iTunes), the album art did not show up. Once I converted everything from .m4a to .mp3 and resized the album art to 500x500, album art is showing up fine.

I have some old TV shows on iTunes, on my old Silverado with a kenwood head unit I could play them with the vehicle in park(helped pass the time while wife was shopping) Tried loading them on SD card but could not get it to play(copied folder from iTunes to SD card) any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know they have to be in .mp4 format to play onscreen. TV shows downloaded via iTunes are in .m4v format. They also have DRM I believe, so you may or may not be able to convert to them to .mp4.

The heated washer fluid has a recal to disable it and if memory serves, you'll get a cheque for the MSRP of that option in the mail. Go get your recal done, get your money, and then hook it back up wink wink nudge nudge

I wash having trouble finding good information on the video playback so hopefully this helps someone.

I've been testing some of the video playback from the SD card slot. So far, the best results seem to be with mp4 videos that are encoded H.264 (level 3.0) at 30 frames per second (constant). 2 Channel audio. If you have the Handbrake app on your computer, you can encode videos that will play in the truck (I found the Universal preset in Handbrake worked fine). There are others programs, but this is what I used.

Once copied to the SD card, I switched to the Media screen and waited a few seconds for all the media to load. Click on the 'More' icon and select 'Videos'. At first, the screen displayed a message saying there was no content, but after a moment it listed the videos I was testing with. Playback was smooth and audio sync was find, but it did jump and hang for a few seconds at the very beginning of the video. Probably loading up the file or something. The longest video I've tested is about an hour and a half.

The USB port wasn't as smooth for me. Seemed slower, but didn't really time it.

I bought a 64 gig from Best Buy at half price. It was for the purpose of using it in my truck. I'm hoping to put a couple movies on it. Has anyone had success doing this? If so, how?
