Silverado Heater

Just was wondering if anyone else has any problems with their heater in their truck. It seems that it just doesn't pump out the heat like my old one did. I drive 20 miles to work one way and you would think that it would blow me out of the cab with intense heat if I left it on full hot. But no it is comfortable but not blistering hot like in my old truck. I even tried turning on the fan to 4 and it still didn't really get uncomfortable. With the weather being as cold  as it has been I really never paid attention to it till now.

 

Is anyone else noticing this? All the gages are normal and I changed out the incab filter but is just seems that the heat just isn't working.  Don't get me wrong it gets warm but just not hot like you would expect. My wifes venture cranks that if you left it on high like that you could not stand to be in the van.  

 

Just wondering. ???

That's one of the differences from my old '99 that I noticed the first time I turned the temp knob!

 

W/ the '99, I never needed to turn the knob above about 1/2 way, or it was simply too hot in the cab, even when down around 0 deg F outside.  Now w/ the '03, I need to turn the temp knob to about 80%, at least to get about the same temps.  Clearly they must have made a change.

 

Speaking of that, my Alero is the worst I've ever seen - need about 90% all the time to get much heat in single digit temps, and then it comes on like gang busters - either too cold or too hot; very non-linear.

Do you have the recirculate button on?

I don't have it on the recirculate setting. I also noticed that if I put it on the floor setting that the drivers side stays cooler.??????

It sounds like the temp door is not opening completely.  I think the temp control is vacuum operated like the rest of the controls.  The fact that you can feel different temps on different sides make me think that either a door or a vacuum motor is not working properly.

 

The heater in my 99 Ext. cab will bake me out after about 5 minutes on full heat and the fan on 4.

I have a problem with my defrost... it's set for the windshield defrost but most of the air/heat goes to the feet... I have been able to fix it but when I turn off the truck and the start it, it goes right back to the feet.. I have a dial knob for the settings...  anyways just thought I would add in on the subject...

My truck seems to really roast me out if I crack a window ( like when I relieve a nasty smoking habit) .  I often wondered if the pressure release flaps (or whatever their true technical name is) on the back of the cab wall between the the cab and the bed, are really doing their job.  My truck is very tight and sometimes requires shutting the door more than once...

 

Therefore if the air can't get out, it can't get in...

Actually the Silverados have all electric actuators.  No vacuum actuators are used.  The problem sounds like some plenum door binding or an actuator malfunction.  My '02 and my previous '99 both always baked me after 5-10 minutes.  I always have to set the temp knob to full cold and upper vent for a short while to get relief.

I have the same problem, plus it is really cold in the middle of the cab around the console. I have not ran the air yet but I hope it does better this summer.
