A few dealers here where I live have changed what they tell people about fuel efficient of the truck because they don't any law suits now. Truck getting 14 mpg in city 17 mpg on hwy. anybody else posting other stuff is full of it or they haven't gotten the update or they working for GM. And onstar is part of GM and they notice it never right no matter what you do. I filled my tank up to EPA standard 6 times with 2 times for city mileage and the best was 14.5mpg with unleaded gas. 1 time with E85 and I got 13.9mpg in city. 2 times unleaded on HWY 17.2 MPG. 1 time E85 16.8 MPG. and I have 20' inch tires running green air in them and everything was checked out every time by the dealer before each test. and after it was done they did the reprogram again. So GM has no fix for the problem as of today. And before the updates I was getting 16-17 mpg in city. And this other I see on here just excuses. I got my truck back in Sep before any these problems and it was doing just fine. I talk to a guy at dealership that just bought his and he only getting 13 mpg. and spends 50.00 on gas. so explain that and its not the tires.

Ton J , you my friend do not know what you are talking about and for you to say that anyone on here getting better than 16-17 is full of it then you are just plaine retarded!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop showing your ignorance and think before you speak!!! I have a 6.2 that will average what yours does and I drive extremely agressive!! Just made a trip to VA with 500 lbs in bed and had cruise on 80!! Calculated at pump it got 18.2 on first 550 miles and truck showed 19 on dash. Second 550 miles was coming back home in a storm running into a head wind and calculated 17.9 and showed 18.2! So to get on here and call people liars basically you show who you really are!! Maybe your truck is just ak piece of sh-- and doesnt get good mileage!! Ever think of that? Meanwhile back at the ranch on the original topic!! Men , yall need to be sure and let your truck get 2-3000 miles of break in before you start seeing the mpgs the truck will actually get!! Break em in good!! I personally break mine in on the floor!! WOT!!! Just not gonna say thats the best way though!! Sorry for my rant TonJ but come on man the dealer is the dealer thats all!! They aint the driver just the seller!!

I think all of these trucks have the training mode (set your DIC to the 25 range) and start watching it and adjust your driving, you will see very quickly what you need to do to produce good fuel mileage. You just have bad driving habits like most of the people out there on the road. Do your training for 2 weeks and come back and post the results. I got over 20 mpg today in auto 4whl drive mode over a 35 mile drive 50% city in ice and snow in below freezing weather with (2) 10 minute remote starts to boot. This is a CC SB Z71 4x4 5.3 3.42 with 400 lbs of gear in the back on my bedrug under the tonneau cover. Your right foot is out of control man you NEED BASIC training now GIT ON IT SOLDIER. The pic is from a few weeks when roads were clear and no 4whl auto and that does make a difference 23 is pretty good huh???. I did not feel like walking out to the truck to get a pic from today but I glanced at it when I pulled into the driveway earlier just a fudge over 20 mpg..........

6.2 were not part of recall and if you have noticed in my statement it was after the recall for the reprogram which means only certain models 5.3l were effected my friend. And my dealer knows about my fuel mileage drop ive been with them for over 5 years this my 10 vehicle. My 2012 Silverado was getting better gas mileage and Tahoe before that. My 2013 Camaro SS is 19.9 mpg in city and on hwy.

My post wasnt to piss anyone off. But only certain 5.3L Silverado are effected guys. I have been working with my dealer since they did the first update in dec. On my DIC was set to 25 and best 24mpg. After update 13330 it just dropped, then the updated 140008 for exhasted fire and it been worse ever since. They changed something with AFM system and GM doesn't have a fix for it. And if you go EPA website all GM spec mpg are based on driving 4x4 and before reprogramming issues.

This guy is a moron.... He has been trolling and bitching about his mileage to long now, truth be known, he's probably a dodge or ford owner just trying to stir crap up.

I have fuel receipts with photos taken of the DIC of which the time stamp will match the receipt date/time. Just read my thread of my trip to NC. "Ton J" If you do in fact own a new GM, I'm sorry you can't drive. Don't bring you BS in here calling every other member liars, and I promise you that no dealer is saying these trucks don't get what is advertised, I would love to see what GM thought of their dealers talking down their own product, LOL.

Ton J- learn to drive, don't put $10 in your tank and try to figure mileage, stop harassing your dealer, they probably hide when you pull up, park your truck, buy a Prius or 10-speed

FWIW my mileage is still poor. The best ive gotten was a 50 mile round trip on the highway 14 mpg down with 19 mpg back 30 mph head wind down 30 mph tail wind home gusting to 50.

Other than that my average is still a lifetime of 11 mpg at 702 total miles. Mostly city driving. I have a 6 mile drive to work. I don't drive like an idiot...I've been driving to get good gas mileage. Mine will be going into the dealer next week. Bash me if you want...I'll post dic pictures this week...fact is my 2014 truck gets worse gas mileage than my 2012. My 2012 would get 13 with the same city driving conditions.

Ohhhhh Myyyyy Goddddddd!!!! Let it get broke in for crying out loud!!!! 702 miles really? 6 mile trip really??? You never gonna get mpg with that short of a trip!! Just the facts! Im at 6500 miles and still learning things about my V4 mode!!! Drive it and memorize your terrain. Know where the next hill is get momentum up to climb it! Let completely off gas going down it so truck will go into decceleration fuel cutoff mode!! Know where your stop signs are coast up to the sign!! Dont drive like a woman on again off again!! Go further than 6 miles!!! How many stop signs you have in those 6 miles? If there is 1 then thats too many for any real mpg numbers to be descent! Dealer cant fix this!! It has a V8 go buy a electric car if you never gonna get farther than 6 miles from home!! It has nothing to do with the dealer or GM or you truck!! Its all in the type of trip you make!! The terrain where your driving. For example, I live 1 hr from Tuscaloosa,Birmingham,Tupelo and Florence. Here to ttown is 19-20 mpgs!! Here to tupelo is 18-19 mpgs! Here to florence is 18-19 and here to Bham is 15-16 no matter how you drive!!! Sometimes you need to accelerate fast to get up to speed then drive normal!! If your always accelerating you will never get good mileage! Try driving like an idiot for just a minute then coast the rest of way!! It actually works!!

I keep my tank full for your information thank you. And no I don't drive a Dodge or Ford. I get a GM Military Discount to best truck that they have and it should do what it says. I know at 60 other people with the same problem. So if you have a 5.3L V8 share what you done different so we can learn from you. But it has to be 2014 Silverado if not then you have no clue. And no am trolling this site is made for this. And I have a picture posted of my truck. so you go poop out if you can and don't wont to post so you can learn from other people and from post you been keeping up with my post for awhile I see. wonder why are you GM tech.

Dealer installed that update and they my friend stand behind what they sell. And they even said its under performing which I could told them that and that GM doesn't have a fix. This is based off engines they reprogram with certain sn# if you got a recall letter you know this.

"Ton J" ... Look... I'm sorry you're a moron, wait... no, that's right, but don't come on here spouting off BS. I have all the updates, and I would actually have to try to get that poor of mileage. I'm on E85 right now and do better than that. I see you plugged a "military discount" seamlessly into your last post, almost didn't even notice that. If in fact you are enlisted then thank you. I'm going to make an attempt to be civil now.... What part of the country are you in? Does this truck have remote start? If so, did your last truck have it? How far do you drive to work every day? and for the trick question , how many miles are on your truck?

You know what, every time I read your posts they start sounding like the emails I get in my spam box from Nigeria. Just an observation.

"Strike1st" - I think Ulukslo is onto something, get some more miles on your truck. It will get better, it just needs to get broke in a little.

My truck has no modifications, it is as factory as they come....

Dammit, forgot about my drop shackles. But I don't see that playing a substantial part with MPG. Maybe if lowered front and rear but rear only would be minimal if any gains

    • Hi All, I operate my 2021 3500 SLT most of the time with the tailgate off and in a crate because I have a slide-in camper. However, at least once a year, I take the camper off and put the tailgate back on. Recently I installed the tailgate, but had a hard time getting the connector bail to swing to the fully latched position. The connector seems to fully seat, and everything works, but the bail doesn’t swing to fully latched position.  It swings almost there but stops and I am afraid to push it any harder.    Does anyone have any advice on cleaning or lubrication or anything else I should be doing?  i know how to properly operate the connector. During the time the tailgate and connector are off, i have a double plastic bag over the truck connector secured with rubber bands to keep it clean, but it still had some dust in it this time when I blew it out with compressed air. I didn’t want to spray it with anything other than air without doing some research. Thanks.

    • Hello @jaszr2 Do you have a link for the item? I put a replacement bumper on my truck and consequently had to relocate the shutters. I studied on them a while, and figured if you left a couple key blades, you could get most of the airflow with probably no throwing codes.
    • In the 6.6 gas thread, I added information in my fluid change thread about these gauges and temperatures. With very limited data, it so far looks like ~30 degrees difference between front and rear.
    • I know; crap pictures.   Anyway, as a finale of sorts to this thread, I had replaced both differential covers and since they had the capability of adding temperature probes, I did that. These are MaxTow analog/digital gauges with stepper motors. They'll flutter around like crazy for a moment and start at a nominal 100 degrees Fahrenheit.   I drove a 30-mile loop to the grocery store, averaging 70 MPH (as much as 80 to see if there was a quick spike in temperature. The air temperature is 102 (ambient ?). but the first pic is 7 miles into the trip. The second is getting back into the truck after leaving the store; differential temperatures dropped about three to four degrees in 15 minutes. The third pic in on the road to my house, about a mile away.   In that run, I saw a high of 150F on the rear differential, and 121F on the front. I'm sure a longer drive or towing will see higher than that, and when that happens, I can update the observations.
