Unfortunately my fuel economy has dropped since I bought the truck new last summer. At 40,000 miles and I see about 15.5 mpg as my tank to tank average.

 

Was getting 18 mpg average when new.

I took this pic today while my wife and I were out running around. I thought this was going to be the high water mark. Turns out I was wrong. I got up to 25.6 at one point. Very happy with that.

 

Here is my first pic of a 50 mile running average.

This is the only picture I have at the moment. It's one my wife took while I sat in the truck and learned about some of the features of the truck in an empty parking lot.

I still have the original W.O.L. Good Year Wrangler SR-A M+S P265/65R18 on there.

 

I know most don't like them, but they have been very good tires except for a little lacking in deep snow. Stay balanced, no vibrations, and with 25,000 on them, have a lot of life still in them. I've had one puncture that must have been a sharp rock, but has been doing well after the repair.

 

I also have a double-cab 5.3, 6sp, w/3.42 gear ratio.

 

What tires do you have, and your truck stats? You must travel some long slopes out West?

 

 

I have the LT265/70R17C All-terrain blackwall tires. My truck is 4x4 dbl cab 4.3 w 3.42. I drive a lot of dirt roads so need the AT tires and like having 17s for the ride. I think with the 255/70 17 street tires I could get another 2mpg easy. I guess I am pretty old school and don't like the look of the 20s or 22s, not to mention the ride.

 

I wish we had some more flat roads around here as I am getting about 28mpg going 65 on the flat. It jumps over 30 going 55. But out west here the speed limits are pretty high. We have 80 mph on a lot of Interstate. Right in town it is 70 mph on I-15. Our back roads are all 65 outside of towns.

 

We do have some good down hills so the 25 and 50 don't mean too much, but it is still fun to see what these trucks can do. I have a new 50 record that I will post up.

 

A big thing I found is that the cruse controls works really well. I have a hard time beating it. It seems to keep the motor in V4 more than I can. I will get up to speed manually and I turn off the cruse on the big down hills to let the truck pick up speed for the next up hill. And some times I will bump the speed down a few mph on uphills and then get back to the speed limit on the down hill. I even use the cruse in town.

Is it just getting cooler out there? You will see a 20% drop off or more as it cools down. More if you are doing short trips where the motor has to warm up every time.

No, I am aware of seasonal variations. The mileage has been declining slowly since last summer. It was lower last winter but didn't really bounce back this summer.

 

My suspicion is I have a carbon build up problem, as nothing else on the truck has changed.

Last 13 months. Includes a 5+ month Michigan winter and winter blend gas.

That is very good mpg's Ventilator! I have the same truck as you and after 13 months (8100 miles) I am at 19.17 mpg's hand calculated. My DIC is always 1.0 to 1.3 mpgs higher than hand calculated but my lifetime (never have reset the trip B) has me at 19.5 so it seems the longer it has time to average mpgs the closer it is to the truth. I am not overly impressed with the mpg's I am getting considering my 2002 model with more front ground clearance and heavy LT AT tires and 4.10 gears averaged around 18 mpg.

Yup killed the 100,000 mile extended warranty in 20 months

I have a 2014 SLT ll Terrain .... 79,978 as of today. Warranty was gone in less than 10 months.

Got outta town for Halloween (Too many tick or treaters in my hood (hundreds)) took a road trip to our local mountains about 70mi each way. Uphill all the way out, down all the way back. Ave 15.5 on the way out and to my utter amazement hit 27.7 on the way back and have maintained over 25mpg so far.

 

This is with a 6.2 8 speed. Super impressed with this truck so far. My 6 speed manual LS1 camaro could not get that kinda mileage. My wifes 14' equinox (3.6) can't get that mileage.Only thing I know that will do that has 4 cylinders. The only thing about these trucks is they don't seem to start getting good mileage until they run for a bit like after 20+ minutes (like a timer in the computer) and they don't like loads, or hills when it comes to MPG.

Agreed with all that you said. They also suck a lot of gas when first started up and at idle then other vehicles I have had IMO.

My first 1000 mile average. I am pretty happy with this. It may go down from here but this is a good start for a new to me 2 year old truck with 43k miles.

You must be out in West TN to get that kind of gas mileage, too many hills on my side of the state to get that.

No sir! I live just about 5 minutes south of the I40-I75 split.

How AI can be and is used to maximize refinery or even Amazon operations all of which are true but because she is who she is; that makes what she says about what is true, false? Is that something akin to Pre-justice aka prejudice?    Look, I'm first in line to approach all information with caution just because we live in a world where people like to lie about someone or something with such a straight face and in such volume that it makes digging to the truth wearisome. Meaning I understand the skepticisms but if I were to toss out everything a person is for a view they hold then my pool of people to draw wisdom from would be non-existent and I'd be forced to reinvent the wheel daily. Not practical.    "Be innocent as a dove but as cautious as a serpent."    Test each word. Every good lie is part truth or no one would believe it. Find the truth in it and reject what isn't.    On this one, AI is being used to do what has been done by hand for hundreds of years already but at such speed, the point of a computer, that it is more easily monetized. This one wasn't that hard a lift.    I wrote a few formulas in a Lotus 123 program decades ago, a series of linked Macros actually, that allowed a daily inventory to be turned into a running P&L and production plan. Something that took three departments a week to assemble now took the time it takes to input the 'daily changes' in inventory. Later that was ungraded to the more powerful Excel program an and integrated with bar code scanning, inventory to supply was done once per shift. It had a huge impact on production scheduling, Seamless interruption flexibility, inventory error reduction, raw materials cost effective utilization and scrap reduction. Huge improvement in the bottom line. I spent months on that and AI could have done it in minutes. So yes, it not only can be used, they would be foolish to not try. The legality, ethics and morality are not the domain of AI. Humans need to keep a reign on it. 
    • New to this forum.  Also looking to tune a 6L80 and trying to work out all the issues in my transmission swap.  I have a 6.2 diesel (1983) and have removed the TH-400 and about to put in a 6L80 with a TCM-2600 interface and don't have a clue what I doing after that.  Did you (Leatherneck/RAV3) get your slip resolved? I too hate to spend that kind of money on a tuner that hopefully I will not need too many times although from what steelerdude15 added about the HP Tuner being great for diagnostics would be a plus.  I am also from WNC but below you in Columbus.  Any helo would be greatly appreciated.
