New Wheels and Tires

Looking at a new set of wheels and tires.

 

The wheels are ATX Artillery with a -12 offset.

 

The tires I like are dick cepik Fun Country

 

Size ..... Unknown. I'd like to fit some 305-60-18 but not sure if they will clear the truck fenders once i add the 2" leveling kit. Any advice?

I have seen guys rub with that tire size on stock wheels and a 2" level. You are going to have to trim quite a bit to run that tire with a -12 offset wheel.

Hmm, How much of an offset would I need? I though -12 might give me enough? Since I ran the diagonal of the tire, which at 305-60-18 would be 32.42" Diameter, 12.01" width. Pathagorean therom Puts me at a diagonal of 34.57" . Your tires on standard rims, 285/70/17, would be 32.71" Diameter, 11.22 width, but your diagonal would be 34.58. So technically (i know the tires may slightly vary) if you can run your 285/70/17's without trimming, I should be able to run my 305/60/18's without rubbing right? Or am I wrong in thinking this? THe offset of -12 would be just some security so i lessen the chances of rubbing when traveling the tarmac.

Holy math Batman! I won't broach that subject but you are forgetting some key factors. You can't compare your truck to his, as he is running stock wheels that are 7.5" wide with 5.7" bs and his truck is a leveled HD, which puts him a solid 2-3" higher than your leveled 1500. As far as the tires you're wanting to run, you should be okay with minimal rubbing if any. It really just depends on whether or not you get a full 2" out of your kit and how wide your wheels are. If it were me, I'd go with a 2.5" leveling kit and I think you'll be just fine. Or you could choose a safer offset such as 0 or greater. The GMT-900's can clear more tire with positive offset wheels.

Interesting. I've been doing more research and saw some factors such as the square wheel wells that may induce more problems. So Could I fit the 305-60-18 tires on +18 offset wheels on my baby without fendor trimming? Or will I need to downgrade to the 285/65/18's?

Let me clarify, I did not run or have 305/60/18's on my truck, I know a guy in town here that has that size km2's on his '09 1500 with a 2" level and factory 18's, he showed me where he rubbed and had to zip tie back his inner wheel well liner.

 

I can say I had a 2" level and 1.5" body lift on my gmt 900 half ton with 285/65/18 trail grapplers, which run big mind you, and it was close. They would have definitely rubbed without the body lift.

 

With all thay said on stockers I would run that size you want anyday, with a -12 offset it may rub a lot and require trimming.

Guys run 305/50/20's all the time with leveling kits without issue. Your tires are slightly taller. Go with a 2.5" leveling kit and/or a slightly more conservative offset.

Im new to this whole modifying thing...So parden me for my possible rudeness. Haha. Im young and learning. I am first able to afford minor modifications. So if I run some +18 offset wheels, or possibly slightly higher, you think I could run with the 305's? I am just tring to figure out what I need to get that will look good on my truck. I want to do it cheaply, but I want to do it right and not cut corners. Im currently looking at a setup like this:

2" leveling kit (since it's cheapest)

305/60/18 Dick Cepek Fun Country Tires (Tire Rack )

and some 18" XD Wheels with +18 offset ( Tire Rack )

Will this work? Or must I absolutely go with the 2.5" lift?

You'll be fine with that. I'm conservative and when I talk about rubbing I speak of almost full lock turing in off camber situations. My family farms and my dad and I manage construction projects so we don't want anything to rub at all. I suppose we have learned the hard way tearing up wheel well liners and denting lower quarter panels off road. If you are doing mostly street driving then don't worry about it and that setup will be plenty fine.

 

Hell I have a leveled HD with a conservative 285/70/17 and I pulled back my wheel well liner with zip ties. Saw it was a little close at full lock and did some modification. Some can deal with a little rub here and there and that is totally fine, you might not rub at all, every truck is different. With me when I'm hopping in and out of fields or playing in the snow I want to know I'm good without question.

305/60/18, that will probably rub even with the 2" Leveling Kit.

I had 305/50/20 & they didn't rub at all with the 2" Leveling Kit.

Hmm, your setup would be about .5" less in diameter, so 1/4" on each side. Did your tires fit that tightly?

It will look good, but probably rub IMO. I rubbed a little plastic with 33x12.50x18 Toyo's on a +18 offset wheel and 5" of lift, these trucks are hard to fit bigger tires on.

I have officially ordered, I went with the 305/60/18 Dick Cepek Fun Country (not the FC-2)

 

The wheels are helo's 835 18x9 +18

 

2.5" lift all the way around (im hoping I'll clear with no rubbing)
