2003 Automatic climate control head

I have a 2003 GMC 2500HD SLT Ext Cab, ALL bells and wistles... leather, dual power/heat seats, Bose, Duramax, etc...

except... the climate control is a DUAL ZONE MANUAL controller... I want to switch it to the DUAL ZONE AUTOMATIC... i.e. digital control head.

I purchased the DUAL ZONE AUTOMATIC head unit from stealer...

There are two plugs on the back of the DUAL MANUAL head in the truck. There are two plugs on the back of the DUAL AUTO head I purchased.

One plug from the truck plugs right in to the DUAL AUTO head, which casues it light up and function correctly, minus the fan.

The other plug is different between the two units. The second plug is obvisouly the fan plug. Of course the stealer cannot find the part number for the plug that will work with the DUAL AUTO head unit. My buddy with a 2003 Chevy with DUAL AUTO is gonna let me have a look at his plug, and maybe get a part number...

Question: Is that all that is needed, a plug change? Or is there some relay or somthing else that is needed to make the fan work?

The stealer is WORTHLESS here in Los Angeles as far as giving me help on this project.

Thanks!

I think the auto climate control also has a temp sensor or something in the headliner over the driver. It's about a 2" round plastic plug with holes in it. My truck doesn't have it, but the wife's Yukon does (she has the auto climate control). I assume that's what it is, but could be wrong.

That's probably the microphone for the On-Star...

mine has the sensor that you folks speak of. The AUTO head unit fires up and works correctly when the larger plug is plugged in. All functions work... except the fan...

The fan plug and the difference between the MANUAL and AUTO head units plug recepticals is where the problem lies. -I think- the plug simply needs to be changed... but the stealer cannot come up with a part number, or even a picture of the right plug for the AUTO head unit...

My buddy is gonna let me look at the inards of his 03 Chevy with AUTO climate control in the next couple of weeks...

Thanks!

The differences will are outlined in the factory service manual. Helm There are probably more differences than just a plug difference. Plus, usually, you can't just buy the plug from the dealer. They will sell a complete harness assembly. Good luck.

Yep, already ordered the Helm Manual... I figure I will need it anyway.

As far as the plug, the stealer can find a # listing for the bigger of the two plugs, but not one for the smaller (fan) plug.

I was told by a reputable source that becasue my truck is an SLT will all the options added at the factory, and that the AUTO CLIMATE CONTROL was the only thing deleated from the sticker that the wiring and sensors are all there... I've been told... we all know how that goes...

We'll see after I get the manual and have a look at my buddies truck...

this may also require a flash from the TECH II. I noticed in recalibrating my HU, that the third step in most operations asks if you have manual or auto climate control. Sounds to me like a BCM flash may also be necassary.

Nope. No Onstar in the truck or Yukon.

You were right, it is an intake for the automatic climate control. The microphone for the OnStar is located on the left side of the overhead compartment on my '03 SLT.

I'm working on it and it is alot more than a plug change and temp sensor addition. For starters there are 8 different sensors that need to be added, a fan speed control module, a differnt harness for the senors and fan speed control and maybe a different blower motor. I have all the pinouts for the control head and the control head itself but I don't have the full cab layout yet and I haven't checked out the fan motor yet. I will let everyone know as soon as I do.
