AMSOIL long live gear lube vs Severe gear formula.

I did a search on this topic & found a few threads about the subject but none of the threads asnwers this question:

Most guys are recommending the Severe gear oil. I never tow anything, nor do I haul anything heavy in my 2004 Silverado 4X4. Do I need the Severe gear or can I use the 75w-90 long life formula.

normal day to day driving you should be fine with the 75W-90 synthetic

jwalker, AMSOIL recommends the Severe Gear first and the Long Life second. The Long Life fluid would provide great protection in your differential since you do not do any hauling or towing. It would make the most economic sense in your case. I would go with the Long Life, it will provide all the protection you will need, no problem. :)

I have used the Severe Gear in both 75w90 and 75w140 in various applications. It is a very good gear lube. You can leave it in there for at least double the recommended interval with no problems. The long life is not a bad oil for sure. If it will survive 500,000 miles recommended change interval in a class 8 commercial semi, it will do fine in your pickup. The best option, by far, is the Severe Gear offering. But I would not down Mobil 1 and their 75w90 offering, as it is a pretty good product. Recently, I have grown fond of the Schaeffer Oil 75w90 #741 gear lube. One thing for certain, there are a lot of good products available. Find one that helps you sleep well at night and go for it.
