P0449 Solenoid Valve question

First off. Thank you for reading my post. I have a problem with my Silverado that it shows the check engine light. I need to get it smogged but it won't pass because of the P0449 code. I went to the dealer and they will only sell the upgrade for $190. I went to AutoZone and they have it there for $120. My problem is that I have money issues like everyone else and can't afford that at the moment. They have the same exact looking piece for the 4.8 litter engine for $23. Could I use that on my truck? Mine is the 5.3 litter engine. Also the hose is a hard plastic, can I cut it off and just use a rubber hose that they sell at AutoZone. Thank you all for your help.
