Adding OEM Integrated Brake Controller ?

(There is a bracket above my spare tire on my Sierra that the JL1 ECU should be mounted. It's missing. Plus there is a large 20 plus pin connector from a major harness above to go into the ECU. It's not there. Therefore, my truck has no JL1.). Tango. I looked above the spare tire just a little towards the drivers side ,I have a bracket there with modules and bundles of wire is that for the brake lights ,turn sig. And what ever electrical things are there or is that maybe the JL1

If you have two modules in your bracket, you've got JL1. If you have one module (closest to the driver's side) only, then you don't have JL1. If you have a 20 plus pin rectangular connector going into the module mounted closest to the diff, you have JL1. If you have a 2 pin pin rectangular connector taped to a large harness that runs above the bracket and the spare, you don't have JL1.

I can only assume that major harness we refer to is indeed to supply most electrical items operating @ the rear of the truck and the module mounted closest to the driver's side is possibly control for a fuel pump or ABS system?

Sorry just coming into this. Plan on trying to figure out in the morning if mine has the JL1.

With that said , I did find the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controller, part 3016 on trailer.com. I was looking into installing the P3 but would have preferred an integrated OEM.

The p3 does a great job. I like it. So if you find a truck without the factory the p3 isnt a bad option

2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Condition/Concern

Some customers may request the factory Integrated Trailer Brake Controller

(RPO JL1) be installed on their Full Size pickup when the vehicle was not

ordered with the option.

Recommendation/Instructions

This is to advise you that if the vehicle does not have the option (RPO JL1)

it cannot be added to the vehicle.

Latest word....

Also...not to sound like a smart @ss...but if you have JL1, the switch would be in the dashboard...if JL1 is NOT on the RPO label in the glovebox, then you don't have it.

newdude, I know about the toggle switch , i think the part number is 22822677,i want to know if the JL1 is already in the truck,i had a 2011 f-150 that didn't have the toggle switch in it when i bought it,I bought the switch and installed it (it was plug and play) ford service reflashed the computer and it worked fine, thats what I was hoping could happen or wish could happen with the 2014 chevy, thats why i want to know if I have the JL1 in the truck by giving the rep my vin. number

And thats the thing. If you had JL1 you would have the switch. I may be repeating myself but unless for some fluke reason GM built a truck that had JL1 and forgot the switch, then you could add it. If JL1 is not on the RPO label (in the glovebox)/build sheet, then its not there.

IF GM were to equip all trucks with the JL1 features minus the switch in the dash, then it could be "added". Kind of like how the trucks used to have the wiring under the dash to add an aftermarket controller. Or how if you have remote start prep, all it takes is some reprogramming and adding the remotes and boom remote start. But, for as cheap as the option is from the factory, if people want it, they will buy it.

No switch but everything else was behind the dash ,bought switch ,plugged in ,had computer reflashed and everything worked Was just wishing gm did the same!! -

Bump.

Those looking for a factory harness to install an aftermarket brake controller...part # 23184088 $32.00.

that's great news. I'll check my local dealer for a "P and A" (*) Price and availability.

Has anyone attempted to research adding the integrated brake controller? I was assured by my salesman that this could be done so I agreed to take a truck off the lot instead of ordering one. Now he and the service department say there is no way this can be done. I have found the part numbers for the switch and the modules that are above the spare tire but cant get any further.

It could not be added to the gmt900's

Don't trust a salesman as fantastic can throw him:)
